S&W Model 4567

Hi all,

I recently acquired a model 4567 in great shape. It is quite old so I am planning on sending in for the 3rd gen action package. I am wondering what everyone’s take is on these pistols and also where I can purchase magazines. Do you think this can be made into a solid home defense pistol? I have looked around and cannot find anything that states it will work with model 4567. Let me know if anyone has a source please. Thanks!

Search for the more common 4566 when looking for accessories. It takes the standard 4506/645 magazine which was recently discontinued.

If it's in great shape it likely doesn't need much done to it. All the 3rd Gens are robust pistols & usually little more than a spring set refresh is needed to make things good as new again.

It was likely made in 1991 when 1236 of them were purportedly produced, which makes it a fairly limited version.

It's (8) shot magazine was the most common .45 mag produced so it shouldn't be too hard to find some, though the prices have gone up but good deals can still be had.

Give it a good cleaning & lube, a spring refresh & it should make an excellent home defense pistol.

Run don't walk away from the Pro Mag, look for factory S&W mags.

Well I have two factory mags but I am concerned with their age. I know for a fact that this gun has less than 1k rounds through it. Do you think these mags are still good to go? Can I purchase new springs for them? Thanks

What model is it ? Do you have the box ? If so , please give the product code . Reason I ask is I have one , the product code is #170129 . There were not too many made and mine is 1 of 14 sent to Lew Horton . And yes , I have a letter on it .

WHere would I find that number? I no longer have the box. I see Mod 4567 and a serial number on the gun.

Does yours have Pro Series marked on the slide ? Mine is BNIB , and I found the Lew Horton card with the papers . I called S&W customer service , and they looked up the s/n# and said it was a Lew Horton .

Only if you enjoy magazine failures. One poor sap on this board ended up with a ProMag magazine stuck in the mag well. I don't know if he ever got it out.

Third generation factory mags are good to go. With only 1000 round through the pistol, odds are the factory mag springs are just broken in. Factory mag springs are good, but if it makes you feel better, get some mag springs from Wolff.

With only 1000 rounds through the pistol, the recoil spring should still be good for another 2000-3000 rounds, but recoil springs are cheap insurance. Factory spring is good, Wolff might be better.

Dont concern yourself with age. Its a pistol, not a carton of milk. There is absolutely no reason a 30 year old 4567 wont function perfectly. I have seen them run without malfunction for 50,000 rounds. I cant imagine this one has anywhere near that volume of fire through it.
Just because it is “old” means absolutely nothing when it comes to most guns.
Oh, and skip the ProMags. The factory mags are worth the price.

Nice guns. I pretty much always put new recoil springs in used guns. They are cheap. I would not rush into an action package. Shoot it first.

Pro mags suck. When I get them with a used gun I will use them at the range if they work and then trash them if/when they don't work. Smith mags are available, get those. Never use a pro mag for serious purposes.
