Hello Again

I am looking at a S&W Model 52-2 that has which looks to be white paint in the roll marks on the left side.
Was this common?
Was this done after market?
I know that High Standard did this at times as well as using a gold gold inlay.

Thanks in Advance

Except for the commemorative guns, S&W did not make it a practice of highlighting markings, sounds like someone did that perhaps for photo taking.. also at one time it was popular for people to highlight markings on blued guns.

I have a couple S&W model 39s that I bought NIB many years ago. They have a gold inlay in the roll marks.

I've seen folks use a wax pencil or crayon color in the roll marks on guns for photo purposes.

I'd think that almost anything that you see could be cleaned up with no harm at all.

I used to see a couple of idiotic "gun show dealers" around who put the imitation gold in every marking on all of their S&Ws and other quality guns. It seems that there are a great many people who do not realize that the factory does not do that or who think they "got some special run" or some crap.

Hard for me to imagine why they would think it so special since every gun under the little glass lids they use on those gun show tables had the imitation gold fill.

In any event, I would never buy from dealers like that.

Sort of reminds me of the type of car dealer who has one of those guys working out of a van putting aftermarket pin stripes on every car on the lot, and then adding an additional sticker. Crazy. I will no do business with dealers like that because I like my guns, whether new or used, to look like they did when they left the factory.
