S&W model 53 22 Jet cylinder

If you can't find an original Jet cylinder, Hamilton Bowen has made cylinders in the correct length that are not cartridge-bored; they can be chambered for either .22 Jet or .22 LR. A couple of members here have gone that route.

22 Jet Cylinder

I bought a .22 Jet cylinder on GunBroker late last year. They don't come up for sale often, but if you keep watching, one will show up sooner or later.
You might also post a want ad here. Someone may have an extra.

I'm always encouraged by the quality of folks here and their willingness to help and share.

A little over a day to get a hit and less than an hour later all is well in the Smith world.

Did all model 53's come with both cylinders?? It's odd to me S&W would supply both inserts AND a dedicated .22 cylinder in one package

Local shop has a fairly nice #53 available with the .22LR cylinder only. What would you consider a good price with only the .22 cylinder??

Elroy-probably $600-800 depending on condition, possibly a little more if it 4" or 8 3/8". My 6" 53 with the .22lr cylinder is a tack driver.

Thats why I spend so much time here. First, I thought I knew a lot, I was wrong and have had the chance to learn a lot from out "experts"

I believe the extra 22 long rifle cylinder had to be ordered with the revolver when it was new, I think it could be bought either way. Jeff

S&W Mod 53

I bought this gun 25 yrs ago and would like to sell it. I cannot find ammo for it. It uses the 22 jet ammo and I do have the 22lr inserts which I have no interest in shooting them. What is this gun worth?

Need details to answer your question:
What is condition of gun? What barrel length? Do you have original grips, box, papers, tools?
How about some pictures?

Mod 53

No papers, I believe original grips, no box, Barrel measures 5 and 3/4 inches from end of the cylinder. You tell me with pics I send.

Welcome to the forum.
Nice looking Jet with some very nice diamond targets. A little bluing loss mainly at the muzzle.
I'd say around $600 give or take $50. A LGS might be a little higher. MHO.

agree with bama on price.
We recently saw two 6"ers at B'ham gunshow. The boxed one with paperwork, inserts, same stocks and two full boxes of Rem Jet was priced at $900.
The other one had the extra cylinder and no other accessories, w/ wrong grips was priced at $800.

Thanx for the info. Now I have more questions. What is "3 screws vs 4 screws"? What are diamond targets? What does the letters LGS stand for.
