The 539 is the steel frame and slide version of the 439. The gun has a 8 shot magazine, DA and come with a 4 inch barrel.
Well made 2nd S&W generation pistol.
I shoot with my 539 every once in a while, 25 meters, accuracy is good and the gun is relaible. Shoots trouble free.
The 539 is not seen very often around here. Shooters say, to heavy, only 8 rounds.
Good for those who like the 539 and there fellow companion.

The pistol was produced in the early 80's. I think form 1980 till 83 or 84.

I have the 639, which is the all stainless version of that gun. Not a target gun, but will shoot 3 inches at 25yds off a rest.

It is basically the M39 with a steel frame and a few updates to improve reliability with JHP bullets.

They also made a M559 as well..

Sgt Preston here. Yep I bought a brand new 539 "safe queen" about 2 1/2 years ago. It's my only 9mm. I've had a trigger job done on it & mounted a red-dot scope on top of it. I reload my own ammo for it. It's an excellent gun. It fires perfectly every time, never fails to feed or eject. It is "reasonably" accurate. That equates to a consistent 2.5" - 3" circle at 15 yards in my hands. I also added some fancy rosewood grips to it & had a holster custom made for it. All in all it's a great gun & gets lots of 2nd looks at the gun range. I shoot it every week. I also have a PC 945. The 539 is NOT in the same league as a PC 952 or PC 945, it is a close 2nd cousin.
