S&W Model 66-3 2 1/2" prices

A year ago they were $600-$700, but now people are paying double that in online auctions.

66-2+ in nice condition can bring $800 to $1000, perhaps more at auction. P&R versions will bring more.

Heck I just saw a pawnshop with a 4 inch 686, no dash, $1000!!!

Yea the prices are beyond belief.

I recently picked up a rough (pitted in spots, chipped grips) 2.5 66 for $600. I didn't really want to invest much in it due to its condition. I took it to a show in hopes of maybe getting my money back at least. I was shocked when a dealer eagerly gave me $900 for it.

I am a P&R guy, so that drops the value in my eyes, but if selling I would ask north of a grand and drop as needed till it sells. If I was a buyer I personally would not go more than 800.00, but the market today is hot for .357 snubbies.

I also would go to $800 if buying.
Probably means I ain't buying another one!
Fair Price is probably $1,000 plus.

I need some help with a fair price, for a model 66-3, 2 1/2". No box. I would rate the gun above 95%, maybe better.

Sounds like a very nice one that you just might have to grab...even if it costs a little more than normal times. You might not see one again for a long time...even at today's outrageous asking prices.

I'd expect to pay at least $900-$1000... If it were unfired in the original box, like this, at least $1500-$1800+. Buy a shooter and enjoy it!

Come on, man. The panic has prices going through the roof. NO ONE knows what a gun is worth these days, because prices are 100% the imagination of the seller.
Are you buying or selling? If you're selling, take any opinion offered here that's under $1000 and double it. If you're buying, how much can you afford? If you can drop $1500-1800 without batting an eye, there's your price. Otherwise, look for a "sweetheart" deal from someone who hasn't paid attention to prices for the last year or two, which is what IMO happened to anyone that claims they paid less than $800. No offense, not calling anyone out, but if a seller isn't well over a grand for a 2-1/2" 66 these days, they're giving it away.
Anyway, there ya go. Buying and selling is insanity right now.

The grips I bought to go on a M66, are sitting on a near mint M67. I am not going to chase the crazy prices out there. Besides, I would just as soon have a M19. Yeah I buy grips first so I can justify buying the gun:D

Three years ago I traded a P&R 66 2 1/2 inch in the box for a no box 28-2 over 95% and a pre 17 in 85% mfg in 53. I told the guy I really didn't want the 22, so He threw in 2 c notes and I took it. sold the 28-2 last summer for $850 and the 22 masterpiece turned out to be the best shooting k22 I ever shot, so I kept it.

A reasonable price these days would be $800-$1000. On an auction site, with a few people overly interested and stimulus/unemployment money burning a hole in their wallets and it becomes $1000-$1500, maybe even more.

Good heavens!!
Guess I will treat my 66-1 snub with a little more respect now!!
Had no idea they had gotten that high.
Hate to see prices where they are at. Stifles collectors on a limited budget. I can remember when collecting Smiths was fun AND affordable.
