I recently puchased a S&W Revolver that is marked 22 Long Rifle CTG on the barrel,(6" brl) however where the serial number is located it is marked MAG #36744 Model 7. The cylinder is
sized for the .22 Magnum and it shoots just fine and very accurate. Can someone tell me more about this revolver.

Thanks,

Model 7? Are you sure it says that? It's not often that I'm completely stumped. But, at the moment, you got me. I know better than to say, "There's no such thing", so I'll wait for the next guy to say it.

Sorry, I have no way of sending a picture. It looks very similar
to my S&W Model 17-4. A friend mentioned that it must have been sent back to the S&W folks for repair or modification of some type and it was remarked with that number 7. The only other clue is they might have changed the cylinder to 22 magnum and re-numbered the model. I haven't a clue.

Thanks for any info.

After searching more I find these numbers on the bottom of the hand grip K212480, which I think would indicate that it is a K frame but WHY is that number different from the serial number?

you might be looking at the assembly number on the frame and yoke. they differ from the serial number. K 212480 would be your serial number. It sounds like you have a K22 (Pre Model # 17) that either has a replacement .22 Magnum cylinder in it or the original cylinder has been modified to accept the longer shell.

410bore,

Thanks for that explanation. I would seem to think that would probably be the case in this situation.

Thanks for your help.

My next question is, does anyone know where I might be able to purchase the blade for the rear sight or the complete part?

Thanks again.
