I have a 98% blue S&W Model 57 41 Mag serial number N452316.

Are there members who own the Model 57 who could provide a possible value.....? My estimate is about $1100.00; not sure what I based that on....Would appreciate any info. Thank you,

Hello and welcome from Western Massachusetts. I do not have a model 57, but have been looking for one for the past few years. Looks like yours was made in 1978, but someone should be along to give you an estimate on value.
I have not seen one here locally at either gun stores or gun shows. I think your estimate would be close, since while a 57 is rare in the wild, I would think the .41 Mag ammo would be even more rare today, thus limiting the buying urge of others who want it to shoot. Others like me may pay more, and be willing to wait for the ammo to become available.

Jim,
Welcome to the Forum

There are Many 41 Magnum enthusiasts among your fellow Forum Members. I consider myself among them.

I have been acquiring Models 57/357/657 revolvers and other manufacturer's 41 Magnums for about 4 decades now

In these times almost any N-frame revolver in good operating and cosmetic condition will bring over $1,000 on the auction sites. 4" Model 57 revolvers are harder to come across than the 6" also as usual there are fewer nickel than blue

The older Pinned and Recessed revolvers, like yours, will bring more money than a non-P&R example

Examples complete with box and documentation or unusual histories will bring even more at auction

I saw some 57’s at a show yesterday in the 1250-1350 range but of course that was the asking price. At the same show I saw a nice 4 inch 27-2 for around the same price.

Welcome from North Texas. I’m a big fan of the Model 57. With the crazy prices that handgun are going for now days you’re probably low on your estimate. You didn’t mention the barrel length or if it’s pinned and recessed.

Another .41 Magnum lover and M57 owner here. Welcome to the forum. Looks like yours was born 1977-78, as that is the years for the N400,000 SN's. Can you post pictures? We all love pics of other people's guns, and it would help us value it for you. Is it a 4", 6", or 8-3/8" barrel? Does it have the factory oversize Goncalo Alves stocks? They came standard with a .500" target hammer and either a .400" or .500 inch target trigger. Do you have the box, tools and original paperwork for it? All these things contribute to value.

The 4th Ed. SCSW (2016) gives ANIB value as $1200, that's with box, tools, etc.. Exc. condition is $950, VGC is $750. Keep in mind those are 2016 values, you should expect 15-20% better than that today.

Mine is a 1968 manufacture, don't know if it was prior to the diamond stocks changing (1968 and prior stocks have a diamond around the screw escutcheon) because I didn't get the factory stocks on mine. However, it is an "S" prefix gun, which changed to N around 1969-70. S guns bring a premium of 25-75% depending on age and condition. That said, since I didn't get the original stocks, no box or tools (my finish is also about 95%) the value drops a little. Mine also has an aftermarket vented rib, which I sort of like, but probably affects its value since it is not original. I gave $1300 for mine about a year and a half ago. The long barrel I believe brings less than the 4" barrel, and my guess is that Patridge front sight would bring a little more than the Baughman, as there were less of them.

Anyway, you could count on $1000-$1200 probably in today's market. You're not planning to sell it are you? keep it and look for a companion for it, like a M58.
