Does anyone know the meaning of the rather cryptic press release issued today by S&W saying it was down sizing and eliminating 80 jobs at its New Hampshire hunting rifle facility?

It obviously means the i-Bolt rifles are not selling, but does it mean S&W is going to stop production of the bolt actions entirely?

Does anyone have any inside info?

I get around to quite a few shops and gun shows and visit my club range usually twice a week for a few hours, but I have yet to see an i-bolt. I guess they're out there but not real popular. Too much competition in the rifle market is my guess.

They haven't made any in short action or I'd try one. I prefer Remington bolts anyhow.

Hunters are the fastest declining firearms user group.

It would not surprise me at all that I Bolts are not selling well.

BTW, it is impossible to tell how bad TC is doing just by knowing 80 people were let go. What % is that of the total work force? Are they direct or indirect labor? Contractors? Temporaries? Full timers?

Not enough info.

They could give S&W forum members a $175 discount to stimulate sales and thus stimulate membership.
