I've tried the Sticky with the scans of old catalogs, but can't seem to find this. While sorting through the holster box, I found an S&W marked brown pancake style holster marked "29 44". My first thought was that it fits a 4" N frame, but does anyone know for sure?

The 44 on the chart is a Colt 4" Lawman but mine slops around in the holster while a 6" M28 fits fine (barrel length excepted).

The "pancake" holster you are describing is a Model 44. S&W called it the "Hugger' and it first appeared in the late 1970s leather catalogs. It was for small & medium frame 2 inch revolvers and the Models 39 & 59 autos. Take a close look at the "29" It should be "39" Ed.

Not the best shot, but a "29".

Since I am out of 4" N-Frames and have a Roy Baker pancake, I guess I'll put it on the Classifieds.

That's not the Hugger style pancake holster pictured in the S&W holster catalogs, and, I agree the "29" is a 29. Can you post a clear picture of the back side that shows how it attaches to a belt? The holster has had a revolver in it for some time, but based on the shape, I think it was made for a Model 39 or 59, or other make auto pistol. Ed.

Found it in a 1983 S&W Leather catalog.
29 Slimline Holster
Comfortable and attractive, this body hugging holster is crafted from the finest leather,
accented by top stitching. Available fro small and medium frame revolvers with 2 to 4 inch barrels.
Features:
Body hugging style
Thumb break
Open muzzle
Favored F.B.I. tilt
1 3/4" belt slots

Size 44 is for Colt Trooper, Lawman, Official Police.

Your holster has a "tunnel" for the belt but the one shown in my catalog shows slots
similar to my Model 44 Hugger holster....Wrong photo in the catalog, or design change? Hard to say.

BTW My hugger holster is a size 34 for a 4" K Frame, but a K frame is a sloppy fit and a 4" N frame is about perfect.
