Sorry to hear about that. First call S&W. I'd tell you about parts they've sent me for free after I managed to damage them myself (and clearly told S&W I had done so, and tried to pay, but they would not let me). Like the free replacement 22A grips because I, .., well that's too embarrassing, let's not go there.
I assume the ORC is the OR but compliant? So I ASSUME that your gas block is the same as my original I removed when I switched to YHM Hooded front sight/gas block. I know we discussed in e-mail, I hate to part with any AR parts
, but most likely I will never use the old gas block. It is slightly discolored, as I overheated it to remove it (at which point it almost fell off on it's own).
If you can't get a new one for free, or a very reasonable price, PM me your name and address, I'll send it to you my old one.

I swapped out the front sight post on my MOE because I wanted a flip-up front sight. I got the Yankee-Hill gasblock/sight - they make three models with different cap styles, so when you order/buy one, pay attention to what you're getting. The Yankee-Hill sight caps conver the pin channels, so it doesn't look ghetto.
Hello, I too am having a rough time getting my factory railed gas block off of my M&P 15OR. I was unable to remove it myself so I took it to Gander Mtn to see if their gunsmith could help my situation and sure enough they were also unable to remove the gas block taper pin. Hitting from ejection port side to non-ejection port side. My gas block got pretty beat up after the gunsmith worked on it, very scrathed. I now need to get this one off and need a replacement. I called S&W to tell them about my situation but they said they are off until January 2nd so I should wait until then to send it in. I hope they will be able to get the factory block off and get me a replacement on there. I heard these taper pins were tough, but mine would not budge. Not for me or the gunsmith. I now have a beat up gas block. Scratched does not describe how bad this thing is beat up. I am not a happy camper, all I want is to get this thing off so I can install my YHM free float forearm, but now I need a new gas block too. Any idea on the average turn around time from S&W factory services?

Sounds like your doing it correctly. I put a 1 inch thick piece of hard pine on the concrete floor, and rested the gas block on that. I put cardboard under the rest of the upper top protect it and hold it in place. Then using a hardened steel nail punch (with an indented head almost large enough to cover the pin head) I hit the nail punch hard with a large mallet. The pin shot out.
If the gun smith couldn't get it out (wow
), it may need to go back to S&W. I've gotten great support from them.Yea it is in there like it is part of the gas block. I will send it to S&W after the holidays, and will hopefully get it back in a timely fashion with good news to report. I will keep you posted.

Hey guys and gals, look at these pics from S&Ws website, it appears the new M&P15 OR has a redesigned gas block with two set screws and no taper pin. I wonder if I would be able to get the new style as a replacement?
