Grinder, is this guy black magic or melonite on the slide? I see no underlying laser etching on the slide, so they had to at least alum oxide to prep to the slide for the coating.

I have often thought of melonite with factory laser etching for my CQB refinish.

thanks in advance

CQB,
As for the TSW,
it's definitely a paint-on type coating, not melonite
The slide has no markings
The FCS, NS, and action job make it a nice piece
Took her out to my range and it shoots good

I will try out the 4506 when I have a chance
It has a mag disconnect

Thanks for the article
No, I don't have it in the collection :)

I would love a Performance Center S&W 4506, I'm sure they would sell a truck load if S&W actually listened to the averag gun buyer and re-introuduced the 4506!

Spoke to S&W Performance Center, they will be building me a PC 4506, It will be pricey, when I get it worked out and get my new pistol I'll update! Great Forum everytime I see those PC pics I had to have one!

Great news Tim
I guess i won't have the only one :)
Please PM me at your convenience
Thanks

Got some bad news , S&W PC called I need to supply a NIB 4506 to get a custom shop/PC pistol, they have no more in stock. Damn, NIB will be hard to find! I have an older 4506-1, but they specified NIB, unless some LE Department asks for a run I'll be on hold till I find one!!

Tim, NIB are out there.

just have to search, be patient and then dont hesitate when one surfaces.

put a post in Classified. one hopefully will surface. (they are out there. not sure if this one is too old for your project http://smith-wessonforum.com/guns-sale-trade/94624-wts-n-i-b-4506-no-dash-adj-sights.html

to confirm NIB, make sure it comes with all the trimmings (box, wax paper, SW papers, 2 mags, lock, etc)

good luck, as I want to see and here about this piece.

Well I found a NIB 4506-3, never heard of the dash 3 model, looks the same as 4506-1, seller said he purchased it a LAPD Pistol club, he's retired LAPD Detective, so its off to the PC Shop at S&W, will post when I get it back, plus pics.

Tim,

What are you going to have the PC do to your 4506? I've thought for a while now that a 4506 built just like a Shorty .45 would be the cat's meow.
