I have an engraved, nickel plated, S&W Model 3, 44 Caliber revolver with pearl grips with the following engraved on the left frame: "Presented to Louis M.Logan, Sept 29/93 By Smith & wesson Arms Co USA". The right grip carries the initials LAW. When first sold by RIAC about 10 years ago, the company could not identify either the recipient or presenter of the pistol. While the S&W historian verified the specifications of the revolver, he/she had no information on the presentation and noted it had been sent to a New York distributor where it had likely been engraved and the pearl grips added. Thanks to AI research, the recipient of the pistol has been identified as Louis Marcus Logan, the General Sales Manager, engineer, and principal designer for S&W in the 1890s. LAW is Louis Alvin Warren (LAW) Smith, son of one of the founders of the company, and General Manager, and Vice President of S&W.
