Have been looking at one of these for something small and light I can conceal fairly easily.

I like the idea of the moon clips for reloads.
I know S&W does have some quality control problems that may or may not be an issue.

I`ve not been able to find many reviews on this, or any of the other Pro Series J frames.
Does anyone know of any more info, reviews, etc., the good the bad and the ugly on this particular revolver?

I`ve not found any info here using `Pro Series` in a search.

I have the 642 no lock Performance Center version I found used but like new in a local shop. These are cut for moon clips and have an action job. I've only put a few cylinders of ammo through it, but no complaints. The action is smooth, and I like the polished face trigger. Mine came with the wood/rubber grips which I replaced with a set of standard rubber S&W grips. I just didn't like the feel of what it came with. As it was used, I didn't receive any moon clips. So, I emailed S&W about purchasing some. They were kind enough to send me 2 for free.

As these come from the Performance Center, I'd assume you'd be less likely to get a lemon (not that I've heard of any issues even with the standard version). And all the action job work has been done for you (hopefully without compromising reliability).

And for the price, I'd choose the PC version over the Pro just to get the action job and smooth face trigger. Unless you just need a matte black gun. But hidden in a holster or pocket, it probably doesn't matter.

One important factor is to test whatever self-defense ammo you plan to carry in yours. I found different points of impact with different weight bullets. I can't recall what mine prefers? But most of my airweight J frames prefer a 110 gr. bullet to hit POA (I carry Hornady 110 gr. +P Critical Defense FTX in most of my J's). And it's good to test different manufactured ammo for primer reliability. My reloads use foreign primers, and I've had no issue setting them off with mine.

I'd have no problem picking-up a new one and know that S&W would take care of me if I had an issue. I've had excellent results with their customer service over the years.

As purchased.
