I have a S&W .357 stainless with adjustable sights. I believe it is a 66-2 but I don't know the manufacture date. Since all I carry are Cols I don't know much about Smiths. Can anyone give me an approximate date it was made and what it may be worth? Thanks!

Thanks for the picture. Open the cylinder and the model should be stamped on the crane. If you post a partial serial # (1234XX) one of the experts will be able to date it.

Better pictures would aid in a price evaluation. You can also see what there selling for on GunBroker.

66-2 manufactured between 1982 and 1985.

A serial number (don't publish last three numbers, i.e. 1234XXX) with any letter prefix will help pinpoint better.

66-2

The gun I am asking about is a 66-2 with adjustable sights and the red insert in the front sight. It appears to be three screw to me and the serial number is ACC57XX. I will post a few more photos because I am thinking of trading it for a Kimber Ultra carry and I want to make sure it's a good deal.

If the left side is as nice as the right (;)) and it is mechanically sound, $550-600 would be in the current value range.

Thanks everyone. It is a fairly pristine revolver but if it's only worth $550-600 I'll just hang on to it and put it back in the safe. I have seen blued guns like this one and other lesser quality on Gunbroker for around$800 so I'll just wait for a deal on one of the small Kimbers. I appreciate all the help from everyone.

Good decision, rdaniel! I would not make that trade either.

And just FYI - all the Model 66 revolvers had 3 screw frames. The fourth screw went away in c. 1962 and no stainless revolvers were made until 1965.
