S&W revolvers reference book?

Guys,

I'm just wondering if anyone could recommend a good reference book on S&W revolvers? The further back it goes to the beginning and the closer it comes to the present would be helpful.

I'm not talking about a repair reference but rather one with all the different models and numbering system, possibly dates of models and serial numbers, etc.

That is, if such a thing even exists.

This book is up to the 3rd edition. I have 2nd and 3rd as they are that good! Different lay out and photo's. 3rd the best as it is laid out better, easier.

As has already been mentioned, the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson is the gold standard.

If you are looking for something that deals with maintenance and repair, you may wish to consider "The S&W Revolver: A Shop Manual" Book by Jerry Kuhnhausen.
