S & W Serial # Date code!

i see alot of people asking on here and otheir web sites about the manufacture date of their firearm !
and i need help with mine! i figured instead of just asking what it is, i would ask where do i go to look it up !

AS far as I am aware of there is no online S&W S/N database. The info comes from the S&W 'Standard Catalog' by Supica and Nahas. Its in its 3rd edition so some later issued guns are not listed. Yours would be; so supply the S/N and you'll get an answer. The pre-17's started about 1946.

So? do I supply all the ser.3 or just part of it ? (what part)

You can give it all or some folks prefer to omit the last 2 numbers.
