2. Serial number 812686 - no letter preceding
3. .38 S&W Special
4. 4" barrel
5. Fixed sights
6. Stain screw on grip
7. With butt swivel
8. Five screw design

Info on date of manufacture and value would be appreciated

Specifically, let us know if there is a letter in front of the number quoted. Also, photos or an estimate of cosmetic and mechanical condition are needed for a value guess.

Welcome to the Forum. Probably made 1940-41 era, however w/o pictures of condition, all markings, etc. value estimates would not be reliable. Ed

There is no letter in front of the serial number. The gun looks to be in very good condition, finish and barrel clean.

You have a 38 Military & Police, 4th Change that most likely shipped in 1941. In order to even get a guess on value, you need to add pictures of the revolver. Value is all about condition and finish.

Just based on that, a Military & Police model from fall 1941.

Not many of the domestic .38 Special version were made during that time period, most and at times all production was of the .38 S&W British Service variant.

The swivel could mean it was made for an agency or police, but by that time they may have produced all frames with a swivel, so only a history letter could determine that.

Value could be anything from roughly 300 to 600 or more depending on condition, which as Ed says cannot be determined without pictures. People’s perceptions of what a “very good condition” looks like just varies too much.
