I was expecting my Shield back from Robar until sometime in August. They called me yesterday saying it was done and I just got it. I put 50 quick rounds through it to be sure it functioned which ofcourse it did. So this makes my 4'th M&P that I had done by Robar. Their NP3 teflon impregnated electroless nickle finish is IMO the finest product out there.

I opted, as I always do for their Norton Special where they NP3 everything that can be plated including the frame parts. They just ran a June special where instead of the usual $199 it was $149. Their finish is worth every penny.

Very nice indeed. Thanks for sharing.

Does the NP3 on the internals smooth up the trigger pull any? Mine is nice enough stock (enough so that I don't want a drop in Apex trigger or anything)... but I was just wondering if the lubricity of the NP3 does anything for the trigger pull?

I just ordered Big Dots and about to order a holster... so I'm going to have to wait til next payday if I do the Robar treatment. Very tempting!!

Wow that's sharp! Very nice indeed, I love the two-tone look on just about any pistol, and this one is the best, (along with James's work at Xd/hs2000) I've seen. I like how the controls are now different too. :D

A picture paints a thousand words. Based on your pictures That is the nicest nickle finish I have seen. I had a nickle boron finish on my DiamondBack 9mm and yours looks noticeably superior.

The NP3 finish is unique in that it provides additional lube built into the finish. Robar says that after an initial break in you can actually run the pistol dry. But what impresses me most with this finish is how durable it is. I had my full size M&P9 and 9c done years ago and they still look like new. The Melonite finish though good shows holster wear quite rapidly, with NP3 holster wear is virtually gone. Also cleaning is greatly aided, not only can you see any carbon buildup easier it just wipes away with this finish. It is expensive but you get what you pay for.
As far as the action that too benefits from the increased lubricosity of the teflon impregnation. All my M&Ps have better triggers now as a result. I even did a couple Beretta PX4s in this finish.

I put another 200 rounds through my Shield this afternoon to wear in the NP3 and to make sure the sights were regulated. Robar removes the sights then reinstalls them after the slide is finished. I don't know how they do it but the sights were reinstalled to the same point as they left the factory, so my POA was perfect. Thanks Robar.

Mag: Do they run those specials often? I'd like to get my SHIELD done but sometimes $$ is an issue.

On their extensive menu's is that listed?

Very nice, thanks for posting and making the rest of us Shield owners envious! Gotta start saving my pennies....

If you visit their website they always list their specials. Usually these occur around Nov/Dec but this past June they ran a special on their Norton Special which is $199 for $149 for the whole month. I always opt for the Norton Special, which is what you see in my photos.

All of a sudden I am no longer happy with my stock Shield 40. That finish really does make for a nice looking firearm. I have to decide if I should pulll $150 out of my gun fund to tweak a brand new firearm... something that I would have at a difficult time with until seeing this thread.

ET. If you take the plunge you'll be very happy you did. I started out years ago having Robar do 1 pistol, now they have done 6, it's that good of a product.

Well Mag i have you to blame for hooking me into ROBAR ! They are running a special only till the end of this month for a free upgrade to from the NP3 finish to the NP3+ finish. So to me what the heck the 199 is still gonna be worth it.

Yes I agree that even at $199 it's well worth it and you won't regret your decision.

Forgot to tell you something MAG

Like a good game of POKER ---- I went all in. Letting Robar install Trijicon's as well. What the heck might as well do it right once ! :D

Is their any way to get a similar "self lubricating" coating that isnt that titanium color. Im looking for something around the same color as the Vtac pistols??
