I have a nice Model 27-2 sitting next to me as I type this and I can't help wonder how it got here.

I know that S&W has a network of nationwide US distributors. But how does a gun get sent to Canada?

Does S&W have an actual Canadian distributor? Does anyone know how S&W ships guns to countries outside the US?

The whole thing is fascinating and I am going to send away for a factory letter.

S&W ships firearms anywhere in the world where it's legal and I'm sure they do. As a private citizen I wouldn't ship one to california much less try to ship one out of the country. There are reports when I served in Vietnam of guys having handguns shipped in but that was a whole different era and certainly is not the rule today.
When I was there in 1969 the only thing I had shipped in was a Knife when my Ka-Bar was lost by my Medic in the heat of battle so I asked my dad in a letter to replace it and send it to me. Instead he bought a Case Bowie knife that was huge with a mirror finish. When I got it I laughed and spent two days using a soft stone to rub the chrome finish off of it.

I met an S&W rep from Toronto at the SHOT show one year.
Spotted him after I heard him pronounce the word "out" in three syllables. :D
