I have a M1905 M&P, 4th change, with serial number 265,3xx. It has the S&W trademark on the sideplate. The word "TRADE" on the top of the trademark, and the work "MARK" on the bottom do not have a borderline around them. Can anyone tell me the time period when this variation of the trademark was used? All the photos I have seen recently show a border around the two words I mentioned. Thank you in advance.

I have one from May 1916 s/n 249XXX that has the TRADE and MARK, but both have a scroll banner around them. Yours is a little newer gun and they must have changed sometime between then.

Does anyone have any knowledge about when the change was made and how long it lasted? Later M&P's, from the photos I have seen on here, had the borders restored to the trademark.
