S&W vs Colt

I was at my gun range on friday. They just got in a colt .22 ar. It had markings on it saying it was built by Walther. Anyone else see or had the chance to shoot it? The fire selector was improved, but still no bolt catch.

That will probably be next. But when the fellow at S&W service told me on the phone that I shouldn't expect better performance than the 17 FTE's I just got with 450 rounds of firing ("It's only a .22, after all!"), I got a little (okay, a lot) turned off.

that does suck but after all the other good stories ive heard about s&w helping customers, id say you just have bad luck with your 15-22 and phone representatives lol. all kidding aside, my fingers are crossed that you send in your gun and receive a much better functioning rifle.

I'm really happy with my Perf Center 15-22. It's the gun that brings me the most joy to shoot at the moment.

I love Colt, but can't imagine buying something that says "Colt" on it that wasn't made by Colt.

My 15-22 has whetted my appetite for a big brother. The problem there is bigger, because the Colt in 5.56 is real. I haven't decided yet.

LOL. That's exactly how it went for me. I stayed within the S&W family.

Find & buy that Colt. No matter the roll mark or price point, everyone should have an AR15.

You're welcome my friend. What country are you from?

South Africa.

I've got an Umarex Airsoft MP5, and it rocks. I'm very surprised their shooting guns are so bad.

Proprietry parts for a weapon system that is as widely produced as the AR platform?! Honestly my Airsoft M4 can take more real steel parts than the Umarex/Colt/Walther M4 can. How does THAT work?!

But your Airsoft M4 doesn't take a standard AR trigger group :)

They basically fitted white metal innards into an aluminum Airsoft upper and lower. I have no doubt that I had the Colt M4 innards, they would fit inside my G&G Airsoft M4 upper and lower.

Befor buying the colt do a field strip on it, you'll give up the will to live it's shocking and wait until you see how thin the barrel is.

The colt was designed from an airsof gun

My guess would be, the same thickness as the airsoft barrel :) that way it slides right inside the airsoft barrel shroud.

Hey JaPes,

Do you recall if the threads on the end of the barrel were left handed for the flash hider?

Saw that on Youtube, and it's what really sold me on the S&W. That, and the standard trigger group, in case I wanted to upgrade it.

Speaking of triggers, I've been very happy with the factory one on mine. Maybe they improved it, or maybe (probably) I'm just not that picky.

M&P 15-22...
Reliable? Check
Light enough for smaller shooters? Check
Accurate enough for me? Check
Works like it's higher-powered siblings? Check
Easy to field strip and clean? Check
More expensive options better? Not a chance

I bought both on the same day(over a vear ago), and i still have the SW(sold the "colt" to an avid :colt-is the-best-guy). he has since sold it.

The colt looks more realistic(?). thats where it ends. I have replaced almost all parts on the SW with aftermarket AR parts, because i can, the colt, on the other hand, does not readily accept standard AR aftermarket parts.

Colt made this as a reaction to the SW. It was not thought out as a "stand alone .22" like the SW is.

Non-functional forward assist on the colt....really?!! i laughed when i bought it, but you never know.

there are MORE than enough things we can hang on these guns without the mgfr. doing it for us. eg... fake suppressor, dust shield,non-funcunctional forward assists, etc.

as far as being made out of metal....Glock is all i have to say. it a .22 afterall.

reliability......with federal 550 pack, SW 1 ftf/fte. colt(by the way, colt only LICENCES the patent that is used, not made BY them or OVERSEEN by them) haha 10-20 on my worst day.

there are many more reasons why I (a 32 year shooter/military/reloader/MAN/FATHER/HUSBAND/IRONWORKER), has chosen the 15-22 over the colt, but this post sums up my reason for selling my "colt".

if it was made by colt, it might be another story. I carry a colt 1911. it is the BEST handgun i use. period! I love REAL colts. but tis is not one of them.

As the other posts here will attest to is that, the SW is the better rifle.

I have 10,000+ through my 15-22 and i still love it.

if and WHEN "colt" decides to get their collective heads out of their anus', and build a real .22AR, i will stay with my Smith & Wesson 15-22.

thank you for reading my input.

I will be the first to admit that JaPes' post was very influential in my purchase of my 15-22 over the "Colt". Being selected as Firearm of the year helped as well.

I'm a research hound and before I spend any kind of substantial ($500 is substantial to me) money on a product I want to know everything I can about it...good and bad.

I couldn't find anything good about the "Colt" and there were quite a few posts and reviews on the 15-22 that weren't the most positive. Then I started looking at the dates of all the reviews. They were in the first year of the 15-22. Since initial production, S&W has made some slight changes which really improved the operation of their firearm.
I guess I have been lucky on what ammo my 15-22 will use, but I haven't found anything that it doesn't like. We had several old boxes of various ammo and a mystery bag with an even larger assortment. The only times I had a FTF/FTE was with Federal Thunderbolt, and then it wasn't very often.

Now it's time to shop for a big brother... :D

S&W M&P 15-22 is the way better choice.

my friend has had the colt for 3 months and has already sent it back to the manufacturer for mag catch issues where he was getting dropped mags during firing after they had locked up.

Rraisley, get up off your duff and make the call....I know two others that had the same problem...S&W fixed them right up...
DesertFox......be thankful I am too tired to berate a gunsnob today, and the rest of you who think the Colt is the end all of 5.56's. I hope you dont expect a rifle that is truly accurate, you dont get that with a Colt.
Have a Happy Weekend :D

I made the call and got the shipping papers from S&W today. But in the meantime, my Ejector modifications resulted in 300 rounds without a single FTE. I'm still sending it in, though, because the Extractor does not hold the shell the way it should.

Grover,

You need a 15-22. From what I can infer from your posts, I recommend the 15-22 PC for enhanced accuracy. You can use it for warm-ups before shooting the Cyber-Sport or the Franken-Sport.

:D
