I have a female friend with a Ruger LC9, she does not like the long pull of the DAO, is there a small 9mm S&W that is DA/SA?
Is the Shield DA/SA? She is not interested in a revolver even though she likes the SA trigger on my M36, She likes having more rounds available and likes the flat feel of a Auto in her pocket, or belt.

Take a look at the 3913 and the CS 9. Both are belt/IWB guns. I don't think either is a pocket carry pistol. I guess if one had big enough pockets the CS 9 might be...... Both are DA/SA.

Both are very reliable, accurate and well made.

The shield is a striker fired gun that IIRC is classified a DAO gun.

My GF shot the XDs, shield, LCP and LC9. Then she confiscated my 3914NL. ;) Good luck! Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

Good luck with that. Maybe I'm crazy but I don't think those are in production any longer. Actually, I don't think any of the modern era S&W pistols are traditional double action. Meaning DA/SA. I think all of S&W's pistols are now striker fired or DAO. ICBW.

The CS-9 is a delightful little pistol and the LS 3913 isn't much bigger. However, you'll have to find them on the used gun market. It shouldn't be too difficult so I take back my opening sarcasm about "good luck with that".

OTOH, a SIG P-224 might be exactly up the lady's alley, if I dare mention such a thing on this forum.

Even with an older S&W TDA like the CS9 or 3913 (SA/DA), if she is carrying it the first pull will be DA which she doesn't like. There really is no way to get around that. If she really hates DA altogether, her only option might be a small 3" 1911 style pistol where the trigger is 100% SA with a safety.

Just a thought.

The Shield may be what she's looking for. It is striker fired which gives a much shorter, crisper trigger action than a DAO.

Or she might try a M3953 / 54 DAO...they used a shortened and lightened trigger pull that in years past I had good luck with getting female officers to shoot well and CCW.

Take her to a well stocked range or store. Let her make the decision after handling lots of different makes and models. Make certain she handles a Shield and a 9C.

I'd suggest a P239 over a P224. The 239 is a purpose designed compact and has a shorter slide height compared, to the cut down P226 that the P224 is. The 239 is as close to a new 3913/14 that you can get these days.

Sig offers the 239 with DA/SA or the DAK trigger which is their version of a DAO, like the SW 3953/54. Sig has short reset and short reach trigger options too. Also the Sig 290rs is a neat little carry 9mm in DAO (hammer fired), although I don't know how long the trigger pull is. The LC9 I fired seemed to have a much longer pull than the DA on my SW DA/SA guns. As was mentioned by others, a striker fired gun may offer the best trigger feel for her. Many options there, glock, springfield, kahr, s&w.
