The Sacramento Mountains are located in Southern NM.
The Tularosa Basin lies to the West, the Pecos River valley to the East.
When I looked online I was surprised to see the Sierra Blanca Mountains to the North are considered to be a separate range. It looks like one big range to me!
The Capitan Range lies to the NE. It's a small range which runs E-W. The only mtn range in NM to do that.
The recent Billy the Kid photo is supposedly at the Tunstall ranch located South of Lincoln in the Sacramento's. The building appears to be constructed of vertical planking. Most likely sawmill cut.
Large pines do grow Up on the top of the Sacramento's.
The town of Cloudcraft was started as a logging town. It's logs went down the West side to a sawmill at Alamogordo.
A recent article in the Albuquerque Journal quoted a Tunstall Ranch historian who said there wasn't a building at the ranch like the one in the picture. So the discussion on the new picture continues!
There is a lot of history down in those Mountains!
Here's a picture of the Mexican Canyon Trestle located near Cloudcroft.
It's all that's left of the narrowness gauge railroad that carried logs down to Alamogordo.
