I've read with more than passing interest of the folks who have lost dogs. Yesterday was the my day to join that fellowship. Sadie, our Gordon Setter, would have been 13 next Monday. It was not to be. My wife and I 'rescued' her 9 years ago. Being a Gordon, she took no time in training us to her satisfaction.
Missed opportunities? I shoulda brought the camera taking her pheasent hunting. When I tell the story it is in the context of having a picture of her on point as the cover of Sports Afield or some such magazine.
We found out she had lung cancer several years ago. Luckily, living in Wisconsin, we had access to the UW vet clinic. She ended up losing her entire lung. And then chemo...
Trooper that she was, she shrugged it off-darn near back to normal! But, one year ago a follow up xray showed a tumor in her other lung. Even so, she was game to the core. Starting around Easter, though, she was slowing down, not eating with a decided limp. Long story short, the tumor had tripled in size with numberous nodules.
This is a bit long, but folks on this forum can relate to our missing our 'big black dog.'
