I hope it is okay to ask a speedloader question here. I shoot Smith 586/686 in IDPA. I use the Safariland 3 speeloaders (the long ones which aggressively shoot the rounds into the cylinder). One of them will no longer snap into place and hold the rounds. It is older and has seen a lot of use. I took it apart and cannot figure out where the point of wear is that would make it no longer work. This raises the larger issue of the expected life of these speedloaders and also if one can do anything to make them last longer. They are expensive. Thanks for replies.

If no luck here, you might try your question in the revolver section over at Brian Enos' forum.

That's what you gotta "love" about plastic. Works while it works, then........go buy a new one, pretty much. Don't throw the parts away, though, they may inspire you to do some fabricating someday. They inspired me.....

It's possible that it is worn out.
However, if the pin you see when it is empty (looking at the middle where the spiral spring shows) is not centered, it will not load correctly. I just push the pin back to center and it works.

Home made aluminum COMP III clones for a 7 shot? Damn, but I wish I had access to machine tools. Those are some sweet toys!
