Saturday morning ride

Arkansas has some fine riding. I haven't done much road riding down there, but in late October I used to attend a very fine dual-sport ride around Clarksville called the Arkansas Fall Color Tour. Lots of rock gardens and creek beds mixed in with some very scenic unpaved roads and trails.

One feature that stood out for me was the way motorcycles and equestrians could coexist on the trails, a congeniality that you do not often see elsewhere.

Excellent post! There's a reason you don't see motorcycles parked outside psychiatrists offices lol. Going for a ride on a beautiful day is one of the best ways to spend it.

My story isn't nearly as interesting, just out for cruise up Guanella Pass a little outside of Denver. Hadn't been up since the entire road was paved.

When the deputy pulled him over and ran his DL he found the driver had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court for a slew of traffic citations he'd earned and failed to pay. He got to spend the weekend in our fine county jail and the Charger was towed at his expense.
Sounds like it couldn't have happened to a more deserving scumba... er.... guy.
Ain't Karma a... witch? :D

Guanella Pass (11667') used to be a regular February destination for me. I would stay in C. Springs, later Pueblo and come up with friends. We would trailer a bunch of bikes, but there was an R50 that had to be ridden; we would take turns, each doing 40 or 50 miles so everybody could enjoy the cold.

We camped at Grant on Saturday night, then on Sunday got up and rode the pass. Some years, snow prevented anyone from making the summit. Other times, we could ride down to Georgetown for breakfast. The guys who had ridden out from Denver just continued from there. We usually returned to Grant in order to get back to the Springs.

Here is a thread from advrider that chronicles one year's ride. If you search around advrider and Yahoo groups, you can find a lot more photos.

I have not been out since 2006, when I started going to Mexico for my winter riding, but as far as I know, the event is still being held.

Thanks for the write up. That area of the state was a regular ride destination for the wife and I. Another favorite was Push Mountain Road (AR 341) between Big Flat and Norfork. We would ease on up to Gaston's Resort for a meal.

My wife and I had dinner at Gaston's about a month ago for the first time and we liked it.

Push Mountain Road is starting to gain some popularity in riding circles, I've made that run several times. I was on a ride in Virginia back in May and stopped in the little town of Haysi for lunch. We parked next to half a dozen other riders from North Carolina and they saw the Arkansas license plate on my bike and one of them asked if I'd ever ridden Push Mountain Road, said he'd heard it was a good run and were wanting to try it out sometime.
