So, I finally got out to the rifle range with my A17 and I must say, I absolutely love this rifle. The only issue it had was with some older Hornady ammo that I got from a GS several years ago..............wouldn't cycle it for some reason but, the new Hornady, Winchester and CCI ammo I used, ran just fine.
Anyway, here's my last 20 rounds at 100 yards, on an uncomfortably windy day, with my BSA 6-24x40 mil-dot scope.

Thanks for the range report hamster. Have read a couple reviews in Shootin Times and Guns and Ammo mags in which they gave favorable reviews with the new A-17 ammo from CCI. Not bad shootin for an auto according to your target for a windy day. Glad to hear we can use the standard .17 load. They seem to have licked the "power curve" issue with this semi-auto. Would like to see it chambered in 22 magnum. Thanks for the report.

Nice shooting, Hamster65.

Mine is a 150-yd tack driver, if the wind isn't too strong.

The 22mag version should be available this summer, if Savage's schedule is accurate.

Wow!! That was quick. Might be spending some money. I bought the Ruger American a couple years back in 22 magnum and it is accurate and the compact version is handy. Love a semi though. Thanks for the update.

Good luck finding ammo for it. 22WMR is as hard to find now, as 22LR was until recently. The only place I've found online that even has any in stock for a decent price is Cabela's but, they'll only let you buy 1 box per day and their shipping cost is a bit ridiculous.

Yeah I have been having much better luck at my LGS for rounds for my R/A 22 mag. Gave up on Dick's Cabela's and Bass Pro. This new Savage is suppose to feed regular mag ammo but I read CCI will be making A-22 mag Gamepoint style 35 grain stuff at 2,100 F.P.S. Will get a few reviews and check out before I take the plunge. 21 inch barrel on this one.

I'm guessing the "CCI A17" ammo is just a selling ploy to get you to buy it and it does cost a bit less per round but so far, I haven't seen any on the shelves.
I used Winchester Varmint HV, Winchester Super X XTP hollow points, Hornady V-Max, CCI TNT and CCI V-Max........all of which worked and cycled just fine.
The older Hornady's that wouldn't cycle, just say Varmint Express on the box

The A17-marked CCI ammo is supposed to be 100fps faster than other commercial loadings.

Judging by bullet drop on the 150-yard range, that may be a touch conservative.

2650 is real, but with 50 fps ES out of a bolt gun. The older CCI is also faster than the Hornady in the lots I've chronoed.

I was hoping Savage would make the A17 with a bull barrel. Doesn't look like they intend to.

Glad hamster tipped me off to the A-22 magnum version due out by summer. If the stock is acceptable I may consider it as I would like a 22 mag in semi-auto. Guess CCI will team up to make a powerpoint style 35 grain bullet but gun functions with other ammo so they say. 21 inch barrel with overall length of 40.5 inches.

Another thing I think I should mention. I have a BSA bore sighter kit but, none of the arbors are small enough for the .17 so, I just had to rig something up and hope it would at least get me on the paper. I guess I got lucky because, the the first shot hit the lower left corner of the green and white target you see in the background. After that, it was just a matter of adjusting the scope until I could hit the center.

I find it very odd that they would include a .177 arbor (BB or pellet rifle) but, not a .17.
I tried sanding it down to fit but, took a tad too much off and had to add a layer of tape for a snug fit. Even then, it still seemed a bit wobbly but, I guess it worked well enough.
