If you refer to the 2114 appearing in the "spec Ord" field, that is a Julian date indicating the 114th day of 1982, which is April 24.

I was referring to the fact that it doesn't have a pinned barrel.....which is a first for me seeing a Smith this "new".....when I saw the EP'd number on the yoke I didnt know what to think.
Had the grip taken off to see if it had any rebuild markings on it, then saw the 8 digit EP'd numbers on the right side, then I assumed that this is the way they do assembly numbers,
not sure when that change occurred. It has the wide target hammer and midsize smooth trigger.

Anyway from seeing pics online I see that they came with finger combats, round butt looking on a square butt frame, then the -6 went to round butt frames.
question: if this is 1 of the 2k initial run, would they have had the finger combats or regular target stocks. I assume that square butt finger combats will be hard to find?
thanks for any help/input
Love the history
Al

The Model 14-5 wasn't cataloged until 1991. That's also the year that the BH* serial prefixes first showed up. So, your revolver was produced nearly a decade after S&W stopped pinning the barrels. The 14-4 went out of production in 1982, and for nine years no Model 14s were made.

This thread should be in the 1980 to Present section of the Forum. I'll ask the moderators to move it.
