I went to local gun shop and range today and they had a lot of primers for sale including small pistol and rifle in both CCI and Winchester. They were $99. a thousand. I don't need any but like seeing them back on the shelf. I hope it is a sign of things to come. The shop i Henry Beckwith Gun and Range just North of Micanopy on 441 for anyone in the North Florida central area or passing through on the way to South Florida and is in need of primers.

Thanks for the note. $.10 is still a little more than I want to pay, but nice to see them on shelves and below $150 to $300 a brick.

I'd probably buy them if I saw them, which I believe is the whole point of this so called shortage. Hold them off the shelves until you can charge triple what you used to. I have no doubt their expenses have gone up, but not 2.5 times.

Not such a great time to be a shooter, is it?

I was passing by Dublin, CA, so I stopped by G.F.O.S. Saw a few boxes of CCI LPP, 1 box of LMPP, and 1 box of LMRPs. They were marked $100 for regular and $130 for magnums. I was encouraged, then tempted, but I passed since I still have a few thousand in stock. This store tends to be on the high side of retail, so I am encouraged that other stores may receive some soon, for less.

Without shipping and the outrageous policy of charging for HazMat on a maximum $ /minimum ("limited to 1 K"!) basis, IMHO a C-note is a ripoff!

And I bought a good supply of primers recently!

If they sit on the shelf at $100, then the price will drift down until they sell.

I can see @ $65/1K as being OK, maybe $60 would be tolerable.

I have yet to see a real number that they wholesale for.

Golphin that Bass Pro close to you usually has some. I'm not in G'ville much, but I have scored the last three times I went in.

They upped the limit to a thousand so it's worth it to check. Picked up a brick of Rem 7 1/2 last weekend. After tax I got a few loose bills and change from a hundred.

Thanks Burneyr. When I have been there they didnt have any but it has been a while. I have a good stock so I leave them for those that are in need.

FWIW, in June/July I bought primers in Vegas and Cedar City, Utah Sportsman's Warehouses at $65/1000, before my vet discount. There was a 200 primer limit.

Picked up 5K SPP at a local range and retail operation. Paid $80 a brick. Cheapest I have seen lately. Happy to pay it, my stock was very low!

I hope all the dealers and manufacturers who are charging exorbitant prices choke on their primers when enough reloaders decide not to buy at those prices. (sorry, I'm sick over this)

I do thank you for the heads up of where they are available for anyone who is in that area.

Personally, I think the day of the day of the sub 3 cent primer is gone for good. I believe the best price we'll see now is somewhere around 6 to 7 cents each. I hope I am wrong but as long as the demand for ammo remains so high, the manufacturers will use the lions share of their primers to make ammo and will just trickle out primers at a price they can justify not using them internally.

I'm afraid that higher prices on all manner of things are here to stay for the most part - including primers.

Oil executives are fond of saying gas prices are high due to regulatory "moving targets" and political policies pledging to eliminate their industry. I think the oil company's attitude is understandable as it's difficult to invest heavily with so much regulatory uncertainty - and the certainty that outlawing your product is a political goal.

Not so different for the shooting sports industry. In fact there are more parallels than differences between firearms, ammo, and components manufacture and the oil & gas sector.

Personally I don't see primers at six to seven cents again much less three. Eight to 10 cents per is the norm now, and like it or not, they are selling every one they make at the new price points.

Until inflation is under control, monetary policy stabilizes, and regulatory uncertainty lessens, it's hard to imagine much changing for the better. This reality is not comfortable.

Retailers are paying more than that. Margins run about 10-33%.

Dave Ramsey just gave a gloomy outlook on the economy and inflation. Even so, I can't see that primer prices should have tripled in the past few years. Of course, as long as people continue to buy them at the inflated prices, the prices will remain inflated. Even with labor costs and material costs going up rapidly, I feel like somewhere along the chain, someone is laughing all the way to the bank.
