Scalia and Kagan at the gun range!!?

The liberals might consider doing some of the same.

For what it's worth, I'm not aware of any conservatives who have introduced gun control legislation. Maybe there are some; you can enlighten us all.

With that in mind, calling out liberals for trying to restrict legal gun ownership is not trash talk. It's the truth. Sorry you choose to hang with that crowd, but what's that old saying? Something about being known by the company you keep?

This is a good example of the broad negative brush that splits gun owners.

Your reasoning is simplistic. How you got from my post of decreasing liberal trash talk to gain pro-gun votes to your childish comment is no help at all.

You, not your kind, but you, could help by toning down the genralizations and stereotypical garbage that does nothing for me, a pro-gun citizen. You are harming the pro-gun cause and I do not appreciate what you are doing to my freedoms by diluting pro-gun cause.

Gentlemen: I am happy to read all view points, and am happy to have a pro-gun liberal among us. Everyone is entitled to his opinion (yeah, I know writing in that masculine "his" style is not gender-sensitive, but in the dark ages, the "King's English" was still taught).

In any event, there is nothing wrong with a civil exchange of ideas, and the "gun culture" is broad enough and there are enough seats at the table for citizens with all kinds of views on other topics. As gun owners, we should all stick together on that issue, even if we differ on other issues.

As to Justice Kagan, if it was her with Justice Scalia, then kudos to her for at least going out for a shooting experience. Will she become a fan of John Ross and his book "Unintended Consequences," I do not know, but the experience cannot hurt, unless, of course, she found it to be somehow a horribly negative experience.

There are pro-gun Democrats and pro-gun liberals and there are anti-gun Republicans and anti-gun conservatives. There are lawyers strongly on both sides of the issue as there are doctors, teachers, insurance salesmen, pharmacists, engineers, factory workers, etc. Our common thread is what binds us together and allows us the pleasurable experience of sharing our common interest with all sorts of people from all walks of life.

I hope that each member of this forum will treat the others as he (there I go again - apologies to Joni Lynn) wishes to be treated. I hope we will give a great welcome to all of those who share our interests in Smith & Wesson and guns in general.

Respectfully,
Shawn McCarver

If my reasoning is simplistic, it is because it is a simple subject: Liberals are the ones pushing gun control, not conservatives. That is not a complex issue. The fact that you choose to belong to the group of people who want gun control (although you yourself do not) does not mean that that group should be cut any slack.

And you could try living up to your screen name. I've done nothing to your freedoms nor am I 'diluting the pro-gun cause.' I have no idea where you got that notion that I was.

Merry Christmas!

The issue is not just conservatives vs liberals. There is a major difference other than the basic politics.

A liberal wants everyone to be forced to confrom to their beliefs.

A conservative wants to be left alone to live his life as he wants without government interference.

Those anti gun liberals become gun owning conservatives as they age and get wisdom.

Please note that there are few elderly staunch liberals. Wisdom comes with age and with the wisdom comes common sense.

I would have to agree 100% with Shawn McCarver. We both need and welcome all pro-gunners to the table. One of my very best friends is very liberal in most of his thoughts but 100% pro-second amendment. When we get into our not so frequent political discussions it forces me to re-examine my positions as well as his and that is not a bad idea. We both sometimes gain insight and it keeps both of us from becoming dogmatic in our beliefs. The important thing to remember is not to let it become an issue between good friends. As an aside, I know and have shot with Justice Scalia and he is most solidly in our camp.

Scalia takes Kagan to gun range, sources say | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment

According to the report, Justice Scalia invited Justice Kagan to the range for some skeet. Boy, I would have loved to be a fly on the wall to hear the back-n-forth between those two.

Given that some firearm cases may still go before the court in the years ahead, it is good to see the newest Justice rubbing elbows with Scalia at the gun range...

i agree on both counts ;)

I'm glad to see your post Shawn. I could not have said this better. As to the original topic, in my experience, taking an anti-gunner shooting, and letting them experience the fun and fellowship will do more to change minds than any number of policy arguments. By the way, anyone know how good a shot Scalia is?
