Just wanted to send a quick note as a "heads up", if some users are not aware.

Recently, my Dad was using his PC and he got a pop-up message or error message saying that his computer was slow.

His computer was running slow and he was having issues...then received the message. I believe they claimed to be from Microsoft or another trusted MFG according to my Dad.

For $25.00 they would 'repair' the computer. All he had to do was put in his credit card info.

He didn't tell me this until after it happened. We had a brief talk about it.

Point is, there are people that are not computer savvy and may think that a known company will contact them to help them 'fix' their computer.

Please consider talking to any folks in your family or circle of friends who may not be aware of this.

Unfortunately, there are people who try to represent themselves as legitimate companies and are in fact just simply trying to scam others.

My WWII veteran neighbor has actually got caller ID and stopped answering any calls he does not recognize the number from, due to having an issue with folks trying to scam the elderly.

At the holidays or in general, tell the folks who may not be aware of these things that unfortunately they do exist and to be prudent.

Best.

For many years I have screened all my incoming land line phone calls with an answering machine. I will not answer if I don't know who is calling, and sometimes even if I do. If someone not on my cel phone address list calls, I won't answer it, ever. And I will never respond to strange e-mails or pop-up messages.
