because of another thread I though I would start this one asking how many of you receive scam emails. the best one I have ever gotten goes like this ( remember to preview your email if you can't just delete it )
DONT LET YOUR COMPUTER BE INFECTED WITH THE DEADLY COVID VIRUS, yes even your computer can be infected with the covid virus... it went on and on and only cost $21-usda.

another one your PayPal has been compromised.

ok I don't have a PayPal account

same with my discovery card don't have one of those

or my SS payment is in danger of being canceled if I don't notify the SS department right away and a link is provided.

sadly many people fall for these scams daily.
then theres the regular spam email

Yup - SCAM-O-RAMA now days. We just moved into our new home 3 weeks ago. Two days after connecting to the cable service I got a letter claiming I need to give them a $300 deposit because of a poor credit score!

First off, my credit score is 834 (as of last week). Secondly, I do not pay for cable out of pocket - it's part of and included in our HOA dues. When I spoke to the cable company, the lady on the phone told me she gets dozens of those calls a week. If these scammers put as much time and effort into legit businesses as they do scams they would probably be very successful at it!

I've gotten the PayPal scam emails. And it 1st glance, they look legit.

But they address me by my email address, not my name, like the legitimate ones I get from PayPal.

Also, if you check the sender's email address it's usually a gmail account.

I constantly get "$90 gift card" offerings from CVS/Home Depot/Truist Bank. Just click on the link to redeem. I suspect click on the link and cryptolocker will charge to unlock. They always come from "[email protected]" or somesuch. I keep adding "senders domain to blocked senders list" but the next one comes from "[email protected]" and so on. Joe

Been getting weird emails, free stuff!
Holsters, Red dot sights, Gun cases, etc.
And on YouTube I’ve had 3-4 likes from ‘Whoopi Goldberg!’
Could be time to Bunker Up!

One that I could see many falling for is Microsoft Sign-In Alert.

It shows as "Microsoft account team <[email protected]>" and on the face looks authentic.

After digging a bit I found this in the sender info.

The data thieves are smarter each day.

I've been getting an email nearly every day from me at my address that shows up as a 'mailer-daemon' failure. The text of it says that my computer has been taken over and I need to pay. I can't block these (I tried) because it's my address.

Delete, empty trash.

I have been using Android phones and tablets for a lot of years. They are both set up to where it is exceedingly rare that an errant, scam or malicious email makes it through. On those rare occasions I dump it without opening.

How many McAfee accounts do I need?

Currently I am getting 4-6 e-mails a day saying my McAfee account is suspended or expired as renewal failed.

When I check the e-mail address they come from it is always gobblygook.

I only use Mac’s so don’t have McAfee.

But enough people fall for these scams to make it worthwhile.

I also get the odd FB friend request from a beautiful young lady, by her photos. They have no personal info on their pages and I can’t help but see in my head a fat, scruffy old man from either Eastern Europe or Asia sitting at his computer in his sweaty underwear.

The Nigerian scam took in over 12 billion in 2013 alone. Yes they do pay,
and that is one of the oldest scams out there.

I get 3-4 "gift card" emails every day. Also since January, about ten of the legit-looking Microsoft warning emails. This morning my account was accessed in India. I can't even imagine how many of the MacAfee emails have arrived and been dumped into the phishing filter - that one's been going on since 2020...

Just got a text message wanting me to invest in cryptocurrency cloud mining. What the heck is that? For just ten dollars I can get a steady income. Gee all of this time I had been using a bank saving account or A CD to make money. I deleted it and sent it to Apple as trash text.

I got an email one time that said they had used the camera on my computer to video me "Pleasuring myself". If I didn't send them a bunch of moneys worth of Itunes cards they were going to send the video to everyone in my contact list.

A couple weeks later my wife got the same email. LOL.
