My .38 spcl j frame has developed a condition that the one piece barrel turns ever so slightly. I don't see any cracks in the frame. Has anybody else had this problem? I see where the 2 piece barrel-shroud units separate but my bbl is one unit. The gun lives in a pocket holster in my back pocket. It needs another refinishing as the original grey factory finish wore away and the USMC red cerakote finish is wearing off also. Will S&W work on their gun after its been coated? It's a great little carry gun and a good shooter especially with the Ergo grips. Appreciate any imput.

You can give S&W Customer Service a call, 1-800-331-0852, and check with them about the loose, or "wiggly" barrel, as you called it. I may be wrong, but I don't think the aftermarket finish would void the warranty, unless in their judgement, the heat used to harden the aftermarket finish damaged the frame.

The barrel liner shouldn't loosen up. Swing the cylinder open and look under the barrel for a cracked frame.

If the liner did loosen up (strange, since the rifling twist should tighten it), you'll need to send it back to S&W to be tightened.

Either way, I'd phone S&W and send it in.

Sorry but I just have to say that is an ugly gun. Red with Ergo grips. Yuck.
And I wouldn't be shooting any gun with a wiggly barrel.
Send it in and while it's there see how much they charge for a black refinish.

When you have the gun in your rear pocket , make sure not to sit on it, the barrel-frame junction isn't the strongest part of a revolver and sitting on it might give it the wigglies.
Your gun gets my vote for the Ugly Gun of the Week Award.... I give it a 10 !
On the other hand , you don't have to worry about anyone stealing it , or not finding it if dropped in the grass....spot that bad boy easy.
