So today like anyday I have off im at the range, im doin my thing with my 15-22 and all of a sudden i here full auto right next to me. Ill admit it i jumped but this wasnt full auto that im use to, it was a worn down sear. So I relize what it was and snatch this guys gun before he can put another clip in. He starts yelling bout how this gun has been doing shooting burst like that and its fine.

WRONG BUDDY

Now I know I may be getting im a range Nazi and this and that, but im sorry i dont want to be blown up by a bullet that hasnt been fully chambered. So I take the gun to the gunsmith that is at the range and have him explain to the "NICE GENTLEMAN" that right now his gun is illegal and he needs it fixed. Gunsmith agrees that the sear is polished down and its not catching, and he can either pay for a taxstamp or get it fixed choice was his.

Now im looking to buy some land so i dont have to deal with people that dont know diddly squat bout firearms.

Check on ebay, there's usually land on there with owner financing, be worth it for a place to get away and not be bothered.

ATF takes a very dim view of this. Even if there is no intent ie, the wear is just from lots of rounds fired, they will seize the gun and cause all sorts of headaches for all involved.

Hope the shooter takes care of this real soon.

I once owned a Walther PPK imported by Inter Arms that decided to convert itself into a full auto. While many look down the nose at the .380 ACP, I found it very exciting on full auto, and i made a pistol that wasn't much fun to shoot into something truly unpleasant. I took it to a local gunsmith who immediately said he wouldn't work on it, but he did send it in to the factory. I got the piece back a few weeks later - no charge, but the factory wouldn't say what the problem or the cure was. The gunsmith and I think it was a faulty sear - the gunsmith thought maybe due to poor heat treatment.

Regards,

Dave

It's cheaper to just invest in body armor. Interesting thing about shooting ranges, you always see bullet holes in the ceilings, floors, walls etc. On the positive side most keep a blow out kit handy these days and there is always someone to dial 911.

My wife found a perfect piece of land last year that even had a clearing about 150 yards long with a steep hill at the back of it. Creek, waterfalls, great view...long story short, while we were "thinking it over" someone else bought it.

And that is the exact reason I am building my own range.

I am too old to have my life placed at risk by shooters that don't know what they are doing. My last time at the a public range I watched a father hand his 15 y/o son a loaded 40 Ruger and the kid swept me with the muzzle. He had turned around to ask his old man a question.

I'm too old for that.

thanks guys atleast im not the one that thinks this is a good idea..

A quick question how many acres do yall think is enough.. everywhere around here has the "GREAT PINEY WOODS" atleast a couple miles behind it and im thinking a 10ft tall 10ft long backstop should work. Im just looking for a place i can shoot pistol and rimfire rifles nothing big.

To me it was that I was too lazy to load all my **** in the truck, drive to the range to find out I forgot something critical. Or drive to the range and back home, back to the range, etc etc when testing loads.

When I retired I bought this place, no zoning, no convenets. I have my own range to 400 yards.

I have a window in my shop that over looks my range that I can test loads right off the press or shoot from a nice warm shop during the winter.

Go a ridge behind my range about 500 ft high, if I over shoot that, there is a higher ridge behind it, still on my property.

Life is too short to spend it driving to the range.

Nice thing about moving to Arizona, the desert is free shooting. A co-worker mapped out some great areas near where I live.

Not so much as it used to be. More and more of Tonto NF is being posted as no shooting, for example. Eventually it will be like the Angeles NF in California, which went from "shoot anywhere" to vendor operator fee ranges only in the space of a few years.:(

Reason # 537 to move to Wyoming. I'm green with envy.

Thank goodness I am allowed to shoot on our Academy ranges so long as no one else is using them. Not much help for others (I have to stretch it to even take my son along) but it does beat any public range I ever saw all hollow.

before my kids turned 18 i had them in a vest. at the gun clubs & ranges!

Where are you looking?

I am out in Katy and thinking the same thing. From what I can tell you need about 80 acres in most Texas counties to be legal for a firing range. I was thinking about north of Sealy. Houston is heading west so it seems like a reasonable spot to buy for the future.

Don't let 1 fool ruin your good times at the range.
If that happened at our club, that guy would get thrown out.
I understand your want for your own land, don't we all.

If it was not for my Wife's good job we would have moved to Houston or there abouts. I love Texas. My kind of people, besides you guys need another Republican. :)
