I'm looking at changing my EDC from a G26 to a Shield. I just want to find out a few things.
1. Is the safety easy to disengage?
2. How is the recoil?
3. How accurate are they?
4. Are the APEX upgrades needed?

I held one at my LGS with the 8rd mag. Felt good in my hand, and the trigger was decent (better than the 9c I checked out also).

1. It is especially easy if you DO NOT use it!
2. Not a problem.
3. No better or worse than pistols of similar construction and barrel length.
4. Never modify a carry gun with such parts.

1. Safety on when going in holster. Then off when secure in holster. Easy as pie.
2. Very controlled recoil.
3. Very accurate.
4. I love my stock trigger which is great because I personally don't want to carry a modified gun.

I love my G19 but I also have full confidence in the Shield.

I love my Shield and trust it with my life as my EDC.

1. Like stated above, I holster with safety on than once holstered, safety comes off.
2. Recoil in my opinion is very good. Can get right back on target pretty quick. Very manageable
3. Mine was pretty good outta the box, but when I put on the Williams Fire sights which are fiber optic made a huge difference for me. For a self defense gun it is very accurate for me. Take some rounds down range to get used to the shorter barrel, but I love it all the way around.
4. Don't have the Apex on mine, trigger was a little gritty the first couple hundred rounds, than really started to smooth out and I love how the trigger is now. No need for me to put an Apex in it for me, but to each his own.

1. yes. I use it with AIWB carry
2. no worse than your 26
3. as accurate as my 19
4. Nope, leave it alone

Love my Shield 9mm. Been shooting Glocks for sometime now. I bought the Shield for a little more conceal ability for summer carry. So far it's working great and not one hiccup. I actually like the 7rd mag better in my hand.
I carry this gun appendix carry only.

Mine is a 40, but here goes;
1. yes
2. i know i have pulled the trigger!
3. palm sized group at 21 feet
4. not needed

1. I don't use the safety
2. Very manageable, not a problem for my wife or me
3. Not as accurate as my G19 but I just need more practice
4. Never used an APEX trigger so can't comment on that but it works fine as is for me (although I prefer the Glock trigger)

I'll play:

1) Yes - very
2) Peppy but not too bad
3) As accurate as a small 3.3" barrel can be IMO
4) Yes - my trigger was terrible so I installed only the APEX hard sear

You should know "accuracy" is subjective. My Shield 9mm is on me all waking hours (retired and live in the middle of nowhere). I trust it. The only problem is sight dots blew off so had to paint them. Recoil is subjective as well, what one finds as no problem might be too much for another. Depends on what you feed it. Good luck!

I too own a g26. But use the shield9 almost everyday, it's a hard pistol to beat, trigger is great out of the box. Best part of the shield is how slim it is in width, I use a super tuck holster with it and it just disappears and is quite comfortable all day, I also carry a sw 3913 which is the 1990's non polymer version of the shield.

1. The safety is not needed on this pistol. Once you carry it and use it, you'll feel 100% fine with it off 100% of the time.
2. I find the recoil is fine for the size of this pistol, other's may feel differently
3. Very accurate! This is a quick reaction up close to short range pistol for protection. In that range, the gun is spot on.
4. I LOVE the stock trigger with solid reset, no need to mod your EDC.

Most likely addition to your shield? Night sights, edc sized flashlight, holster, and ammunition.

1. Yes.
2. Similar.
3. Better than most owners.
4. Only if you prefer 1911 or whatever.

I got my Shield and can say without hesitation,

1. The Safety is not an issue
2. The recoil is VERY mild
3. It is accurate, but I installed a set of XS sights as I do not like the three dot sight picture.
4. My gun was great right out of the box. I have heard some say theirs was too difficult to manage. Can't say except that mine is great and tend to agree about modifying an EDC.

When I carry my Shield, got mostly for summer, it travels in a Remora and it is like I don't have a gun on! You will not be disappointed. FYI, there are a lot of different prices out there for these guns. Look around and shop wisely!

Positive comments others made + recoil is mildest of all sub compacts out there...I've tried them all to find something better than my PM9. I'm still carrying the Kahr, but the Shield is very nice. It's what Glock should make & is the only sub compact my recoil sensitive wife can accurately handle.

1. It's stiff but manageable. Some use it some don't.
2. Very manageable and able to get back on target for 2nd shot quickly.
3. Had mine about two weeks, 125 rounds thru so far. Last outing, I focused on recommended/expected SD range of 7 yards and put 18 of 24 in the red using strong eye/hand, one handed and two handed grip. Placed six in the 8 & 9 ring using left eye and hand (weak side).
4. Some will disagree with me but I spent a year researching trial cases and every forum and magazine I could find. If you use your EDC in a shooting and have had a trigger job, the prosecutor is going to rake you over the coals. Some have written about a grainy sandpaper feel. Mine works great.

1. Very Easy, but not necessary to use. It's actually easier to Disengage it, than it is to Engage.
2. I own the G26 and Shield. The Shield's recoil is comparable to my G26.
3. I Shield grouping is just as tight as my G26 grouping
4. An Apex kit is Not at all NEEDED, unless you feel the need for the feather-Light trigger of a race gun.... I don't feel that need... But with a Handle like 'JohnnyTactical', you'll probably feel the 'need' and have one on order before you even buy the pistol. ;) :) :D
[JUST Kidding] (sorta)

I used to say that I wouldn't own a SD pistol with a Safety. The Shield changed that. :) I've had my Shield and have carried it since May '12 and don't use the safety. So far, it has never inadvertently engaged itself. ;)
