OG, another option would be to install a rail. Then you could use whatever weaver-style rings your little heart desires, and not be tied to the proprietary Ruger rings. If you plan on any long-range shooting, the ruger rings suck. Put-cha a 20moa rail on and get rocking......

Over the last 35 or 40 years I've had 3 77's and 3 No. 1's and used Ruger rings with great success, these were all 1 inch diameter. Be sure to use a micrometer or very good dial caliper, to measurer from the receiver end to the inside of both rings. One will most likely be a few 1/1000ths inch longer than the other, just put the longer one in the rear. This will buy you about 5 to 10 MOA.

A 34 or 35 mm tube scope has how many MOA of elevation? 150? you won't need a 20 MOA base out past a 1000 meters! I use a 30mm Nightforce with 100 MOA of elevation and a 20 MOA base for 308, I and use 87 MOA (107 MOA with base figured in) at 1035 yards with 155 Palma ammo @ 2900fps.

I believe Vortex 34/35 rings for a picitiny /Weaver base are $85++, these are alloy. I would look for steel rings for a long range set-up (a few ounces won't make a 14 to 18 pound rifle/scope enough lighter to be noticeable! But the Stability will be! (Use an Inch Pound torque wrench to tighten your rings to the receiver, usually around 35 to 45 inch pounds. The cheep dial torque wrench from Harbor Fright is good enough and affordable!) Hope this was helpful,

Ivan
