Hi all - I have a 617-4 and I'm looking for some information on scope mounts for this gun.

I understand that after 1992, the guns are predrilled and will take the Wegman mount that seems the most often recommended. The same mount would only fit with gunsmith work to drill and thread new holes on revolvers that predate 1992

I think my gun does predate that and I'm wondering if there is a mount that can be fitted without gunsmith work.

Here's a pic of the rear sight on my gun if that helps.

Thanks in advance

Open the cylinder and if it is drilled and tapped you will see the holes which I believe are there . I am guessing with out looking in my standard cat. ,but weaver and b-square do make no -gun smithing mounts . I have both and I use weaver 401's on my tapped guns with no problems .

Aimtech makes several no gunsmithing mounts for both adjustable and fix sighted S&W revolvers. Check out their web site. Can be ordered direct or from Midway.
I use one to mount a red dot sight on a S&W model 64, works great and didn't have to drill and tap any holes.

The Weigand mount is nice, but kinda overkill for a .22LR. The Weaver #401S (silver) is fine and is about $8, most places. It's also lower, which I like.

From the reviews on Midway for the Weaver 401, not all the red dot sights will fit on this mount.
