scope set up

Hello to all.

I'm seeking a little advise for a setup I'm trying to construe. I ended up buying this UTG compact scope for 100yrd shots, but would also like to mount a red dot on there for 50yrds and under. The red dot I'm considering is the Truglo or possibly the Bushnell.

I noticed some had mounted the red dot on top of the scope. Is this an ideal location and what kind of mount would I need?

Another possibility would be mounting the red dot up front and having the scope on a flip to side mount? Will this work? I've only seen the magnifiers on them...

The way im going to do mine is put a riser on my scope then put a 45 rail underneath it to mount the ted dot to that. That way all u have to do is rotate the rifle 45 degrees never losing point of impact.

Don't put a scope in a magnifier mount. Duct tape would give you a better chance of holding zero.

Stick with a 45* mount or quick detach mounts on both optics.

If you need to transition quickly between them, look at the 45* mounting options for the dot.

If you don't need to transition quickly between them, and you don't want to make your rifle more cumbersome, look at the QD mounting options. BTW, cheap QD mounts rarely work like they should.



I'm not a fan of stacking the optics. It puts the one on top too far from the bore IMO. The POI will change more at different distances, and the cheek weld is more like a floating chin weld. That's just my opinion though.

I'd mount the scope traditionally, preferrably with QD, and mount the RDS on a 45 degree mount.

For the shooting you're trying to accommodate, you should consider a 1-4 scope. For the range, you don't need fast target acquisition and you don't need a lot of magnification. Primary Arms 1-4 is a great budget option. It also has an illuminated dot for 1x close range shooting in lower light conditions.

I suggest similar setups. There are plenty of fairly inexpensive 1x or 1.5x to 4x or 6x scopes in the $100 -$150 that will give you all the feel of a 3-gun setup without the astronomically priced scopes many of us use for that. And they would work excellently on a tactical rimfire. Mounting a mini red dot on a 45 degree mount for CQB shooting is a simple manner.

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll just have to play around w/ it to see what's more comfortable. That UTG I ordered won't ship for another 25+ days. At least my other goodies should be here by then and this rifle will be somewhat dressed.

same here, used my red dot for a day then switched to a scope and havent looked back. thinking of putting the red dot on so i can actually get some use out of it. either that or buy a different gun for it haha.
