I have M-41, M-46 in safe for 32 years and now have become a range shooter thanks to my son. Shooting 100 yard bulleyes. At 62 years old the sights are a little a little blurred and with my glasses bulleyes blur. 7 " s&w barrels on both. I think I need scope and maybe grips and barrels. Any info on what works (red dot, crosshairs, aftermarket barrels, old man grips) would be a great help. Right now he is tearing me up so maybe scope on 46 only. LOL Thanks Bill

Here's my M41 with Ultradot and Randall Fung grips:

I decided not to drill and tap my 7" barrel, so bought a Clark barrel with integral rail. It'd be cheaper to buy a factory 5.5" that's already drilled and tapped, but maybe your 7" is already. I still have my factory 7" for shooting iron sight matches, but even 56 year old eyes cry for help! The Fung grips did help my Bullseye scores to climb, but not the best if you use it for hunting, too. I'm about ready to order a set of Fung's for my 1911 Bullseye gun.

Not sure of the rules/dynamics of 100 yd bullseye but....
IF your shooting 100 yds slow fire, a low power scope is going to give more accuracy IF you can hold the gun still (1). I shoot scopes in the 1.5-4X range for 100 yd silhouette shooting from the creed more position. ANythign higher gets dark and jumpy fast.

If you need timed /rapid fire coverage , you want to look at red dots. Beware that dot size is important at this range. Many dots come with a 4, 6 or even 10 min dot. Consider that each min represents an inch @ 100 yds (so that a 6 min dot would cover 6" of the target.) I personally try to stay to 3 min and under for all my dot sights.

I bought a 7" barrel that already had a weaver mount on it to go with the 5" that came with my 41. I put a 2x6 Simmons scope on it. Am just gettting it sighted in but am able to put 10 rounds in the size of a quarter at 25 yards with it. Haven't tried it at a 100 yet. it will take some time and practice to shoot the rig offhand, but it is nice to be able to see both the crosshairs and the target clearly, instead of one or the other.
