That' s a beauty!

That's a beauty! I picked up my 25-2 a few years ago...6-1/2" bbl (s/n N139297, ca. 1973). It's very accurate and comfortable to shoot. I take it to the range to keep my U.S. Army Model of 1917 company. Do you have moonclips for yours? They are available in 2-rd, 3-rd, and 6-rd versions, and in steel (Ranch Products, etc.) or polymer (RIMZ). RIMZ are cool because you don't need a de-mooner tool. If you don't use moonclips, it's a little difficult to extract your .45 ACP rounds unless you're shooting .45 Auto Rim cartidges. Enjoy!

That's a beauty....very nice score, especially in these times of "used gun shortage", especially decent condition, fine vintage S&W, at least around here with all cupboards bare (ammo too).

I've got one like yours and it jus loves to go out for exercise with at least ten full moon clips pre-loaded at home with my BMT tool. In just a couple minutes I've got all clips loaded and no thumb/finger damage, easy, peasy.

Have fun....enjoy yours with your Dad, I know at my age (75) I'm tickled pink when son or son-in-law, or LEO daughter calls and says "let's hit the range today".

I like ACP revolvers. The Model 25-2 was an outgrowth of the Model 1950. The difference being a heavy barrel instead of a tapered one. The rifling is a carryover from the 1917 Army and suitable for jacketed hardball ammunition. You can also get it to work with lead and target ammunition.

Here is mine with a few 5 1/2” barreled friends.

You're a good man. I'm 67, and I love to get range time in with anyone. But when I can get together with my 2 sons and shoot, that is the BEST time of all. Congratulations on that Model 25-2 ! You'll enjoy it a lot ! Thanks for sharing the pics of your dad. He looks as if he was having a great time !

Very nice 25-2 you found, and dad looks like he's enjoying shooting it as well. I had two model 25's, the one I still have is the 45 Colt { 25-5 } model, the other was in 45 ACP, and I foolishly sold it 2 years ago and have been kicking myself ever since ! Have fun !!

I looked around a little last night for RIMZ polymer moon clips.
...I just now came across the ezmoonclip site.

The metal clips are easy to deal with if you have simple tools. I use a bit of tubing to remove the cases from the clip but it is just as easy to use a metal ammunition can. Hook the case in the corner of the can and pull straight away. To load them back in use a set of large water pump pliers and squeeze them in two at a time.

Or, you can buy the tools.

Just got this 25-2 on Gunbroker yesterday, along with it's wooden box. Serial number says manufactured in 1978 .

I know you'll enjoy shooting such a beautiful revolver. I have a 625-2 in .45 ACP and shoot it with moon clips and rimed rounds. It's a very accurate piece, especially since I mounted a dot sight on it. I also have a 25-5 in .45 Colt which is just as accurate and fun to shoot.

OK, you guys forced me to show off my 25-2 (along with some moonclips), ca 1973. I have also never seen a compensator like that...although I'm surprised it's needed considering the mild recoil of .45 ACP in the rather hefty Model 25. Pretty cool, though.

Bill, that's fantastic that you got to enjoy the time with your Dad! Sure that's a great revolver but the best memories are the smiles you put on his face! You never get those chances back and you must make the most of them when they come along.

I know I cherish the times I get to spend with my Dad (84 y.o.)...doing anything together!

I had several cut back to 4 1/8" barrels for service revolvers.

I have cut back several 1917s and one Model 25-2.

4 1/8? Odd length, any particular reason?

I could be mistaking on the barrel length. The armorer recommend this length. It could have been 4 3/8" or 4 5/8. It been many years ago.
I also had the original front sight (partridge ?) re-installed.
