I spent the day hitting the area pawn shops and came home with two model 37's!!!

The first is a 37 no dash, nickle, round butt, flat latch, diamond grips, serial # 233***.

Second is a 37 no dash, blue, round butt, serial # J58***.

Can someone please tell me the approximate date of manufacture of both? Thanks.

Fantastic finds!!!
What area are you in?
I dont have my bible handy, But I am sure someone will come along and give you the dates!
The nickel flat latch makes me drool! One of my favorite Smith and Wessons!
Congrats on your finds!!!!
Peter

Approximate build dates are 1961 for the flatlatch and 1970 for the other.

You did check for cracked frames before you bought...right?
Thanks for the info. Yes I checked them both. I knew the former police officer who previously owned the flat latch. It was carried as an off duty gun and was rarely fired. The nickle is bubbling in a couple of places though. The blued one was a personal weapon of the pawn shop owner. He carried it in his back pocket so it does show some finish wear but functions perfect. Not bad for $445.00:D

Nice score! The nickel flat latch 37 would be the perfect companion gun to go with my nickel flat latch 36...

Nice M37s.
Several years ago I had a real nice blue M37 whose purpose was to be a "desk gun" and carry gun.
I buddy who was an undercover officer talked me out of it as he wanted a revolver for an ankle holster.
He lost it running down stairs chasing a perp. and never did get it back.
A shame!

Model 37's

You never know what you can score at a pawn shop. Sometimes all they have is junk guns, but every now and then you get lucky. I just scored a Model 439 last week from our local pawn shop. $225 out the door.

Got to love the J frame airweights.Great score man.

Good show! The 37 was Smiths first lightweight 38, and is still one of the best of the breed. I do like the airweights for pocket or light holster guns. My current is a 3 inch 337, which will handle +P, or so it says on the barrel. I find it slightly on the light side with hot +P loads, but it gets carried more than shot.

A very nice find! I've been looking for a 37 with no luck and your flat latch is droolable!

I thought about having the flat latch re-nickled but decided against it. It's going into the off duty carry rotation.
