Screw Drivers

Can anyone help me with purchasing the correct screw driver(s) for a 625-8? I bought a Magna-Tip driver set from Brownells for my 29 but was not happy with it. It came with four interchangeable tips but they didn't really fit the screws as well as I would have liked. It's hard to buy this stuff on-line because you can't see how they fit the screws that are on your gun. Is there a coding system to know which screw driver to use for each screw on the gun? The following tips came with my current driver:

150-3
210-2
210-4

I wouldn't mind buying a large set, but it seems silly to do so given that I only have two guns I'm really picky about (my S&W revolvers - M29 and M625).

Years ago, I bought a Wheeler 89-piece gunsmithing screwdriver set from MidwayUSA. It has more bits that I'll ever need but every now and then, I find a use for another one. For example, not long ago there was a thread on here about replacing the springs in your S&W revolvers with lower-tension ones for a nicer trigger pull and the potential for difficulty when replacing the trigger rebound spring was discussed. That Wheeler kit includes a bit that makes that chore simple. Its MidwayUSA item number is 439523 and although out of stock until 02/21, it is on sale right now for $64.23. It wouldn't take long to invest that much in separate drivers.

It includes bits for things like Redfield and Leupold scope base windage screws. Those screws' slots are oddly-shaped with curved bottoms to keep the bit centered that cause normal flat-bladed bits to exert excessive force on the ends of the slots and spread them outward. It also has some AR-specific bits for which I have no current use but it's better to have a tool you might never need than deface a screw or a gun with an incorrect one.

I highly recommend, and have been extremely happy with my two sets of Grace screwdrivers. They are the old style with the wooden handles, and come in sets designed for different gun groups. I have the HG-8 gunsmith set, and the HG-7 pistolsmith set. They have excellent service also, as the gunsmith set has a lifetime warranty, I sent them an email when I had a problem, and they sent me a replacement screwdriver no charge. The pistolsmith set does not have the lifetime warranty due to the small size of some of the screwdrivers. Oh I almost forgot made in the USA.

I have a couple of the Magna-Tip large sets around the house and find that I no longer use conventional screwdrivers at all anymore! While the Magna-Tips are just the ticket for any gun-related need, I have found that ALL screws in the house (appliances, electronics, general purpose) benefit from a properly fitted screwdriver tip and I have far fewer buggered scres across the board... definitely worth the investment!
