I recently purchased a S&W SD40 and love the gun. Its snappy and I like it. I am ok with the grip, but my girlfriend has a hard time keeping it in her hands when she shoots it because of the recoil and her grip not being as strong.

I'm looking for an aftermarket grip similar to the Pachmayr grips. Unfortunately Pachmayr doesn't offer these for the SD yet.

Can anybody suggest a good slip on or wraparound grip for the SD? Something with finger grooves would be best.

hogue handall

I have a hogue handall and it made the feel alot better. it does make a big difference.

If you don't want to change the shape or dimensions of the standard SD grips, but want better grip-ability, you could try "skater tape." I have it on all of my pistols and love it.

I bought a roll of 3M stair tread safety tape at Lowe's or Home Depot and it has lasted for years. I just cut little shapes as I need them. The tape has to be applied to relatively smooth areas, or be cut relatively large to cover an area big enough to get a good grip.

Roll your mouse over the thumbnail of my SD9. You can see a patch at the top of the grip for the top of my palm and, on the other side in the same place, for my thumb; and a wrap-around piece on the front strap for the main gripping area for my fingers, and then a thin strip on the side of the backstrap for extra grip in my palm (no need to put this piece on the opposite side -- I am right handed -- because my fingers aren't long enough to go around that far!).

This stuff is sticky -- without being abrasive or uncomfortable.

I have this tape on my M&Ps and Sigs as well -- it just helps a lot, especially on smooth/slippery frontstraps and backstraps. An added benefit is that it just comes off when I am tired of it, or if I must sell a pistol.

Good luck with your SD -- I shot mine today and am really enjoying it a lot. Accurate/reliable/good value for the money.

Hogues are your best bet

Pachmayr's new grip-glove fits it- I called and they told me which to order, and sorry, can't remember. Seems they said either the one for the Sigma would be a tad tight and for the M&P might be a tad loose. But whichever it was fit like a - well- a glove.
