SD40VE trigger failing to reset!

Ok so I bought my NIB SD40VE about 2 weeks ago, and took it straight to the range with no issues. Well took it back today and was very disappointed. Out of about 40 rounds I had 20 instances where the trigger didn't reset. There were no FTF or FTE at all just the trigger problem. Does anyone here know what may be causing this problem? Is this something I will have to send the gun back to get fixed or is there an at home remedy I could do to fix the issue? Thanks for your replies in advance

Gizz:confused:

I am not yet familiar with this model.

Lets start with the basics. Are you sure you did not short-stroke the trigger. That is - were you rapid firing and perhaps did not let the trigger return completely before trying to pull it again. (real common).

Okay, lets assume you are past that.
Did you try to replicate the problem when dry firing. Or, better stated - does it always work fine when you rack the slide by hand (empty) and pull the trigger.

If the trigger fails to return when dry firing, then the next obvious to me would be to oil each part of the trigger linkage. Check instructions before you move trigger linkage with it apart - it might void warranty? (it does on glock) Put it back together after oiling and dry fire.

If the trigger fails to reset during dry fire, after oiling, some very knowledgeable person on this site will probably jump in to talk about the trigger spring, or the trigger group, or recommend sending it back for factory to fix?

Let an expierenced friend shoot it and if they have the same problem then it's off to S&W. I have sent one back and it was returned in two weeks shipped back to my house free of charge.

My first and probably only thought is to take of the top half and operate the trigger to see if the coil spring in front of the trigger, the one with the unfortunate little "tampon" inside is broken, because I think it may be the function of that spring to return the trigger forward. That seems to obvious, and it is probably not the problem, but on the other hand, it is easy to check. Beyond that, I would call S&W and describe the problem to see if one of the gunsmiths there can think of something really obvious as it does not seem likely that something is broken. Anything, however, is possible. Good luck. :)

The model gun that U posted is also known as the Sigma. There is an entire section dedicated to this in one of the two 'stickied' post at the top labeled: Smith & Wesson Sigma & SD Pistols
That being said, it sounds like one of the two springs that I replaced, in the rear trigger section.
Do a search on Youtube for S&W Sigma trigger job. U will find videos of where the springs r located and how to see them (for inspection, at least)

Oh OK, I'll submit that I miss-spoke. But it is listed under the same thread as the sigma. 'SD' stands for Self Defense.
