SD9

I have about a Dozen S&W revolvers and about half as many 1,2, and 3rd Gen Smith Autos. But due to the stigma of the Sigmas I have avoided anything newer. But many of you seem to enjoy the newer ones like the SD9. I've got a chance to get one for $300, solid black, 2 mags, metal sights, front night sight is dim, but the finish looks great. Seem like an OK deal?

Unless you are committed to buying something entry-level cheap, may I suggest the M&P Pro, or CORE if you want to add optic sights.

I saw that and also the $349 Black SD9 at Academy but in TN with 9.25 % sales tax + TBI background at $10 your example is at $330 and the Black SD9 is about $385

One of the key discriminators for whether or not to buy these pistols is the price differential between the SD and the M&P, compared in the location where you will actually buy the gun. The M&P offers more features (like metal sights and adjustable grips) and more customizability, and a somewhat lighter/smoother trigger. So if the two actual prices are fairly close together, than going upscale might be worth it.

The key to SD enjoyment is 'value for money.' This pistol has a lot of that. It is inherently accurate, it is reliable, it is finished decently, and it seems to fit a lot of hands really well. With those factors, at a price around $300-325, it is a good deal -- a lot of pistol for the money -- as long as the alternatives are $100-$200 more.
