SD9VE Subcompact

Found this picture that I mocked up a few years back. Back then I surmised that this could be an amazing seller for S&W, but I bet it would be an even better seller today. Ask the guys at my local gun shops and they will tell you that the three guns that fly off the shelves are the SD9VE, the Ruger 9E and the Taurus G2 Millennium. They all have one thing in common; low cost. But where the G2 (a gun I would not recommend and one that has it's forum to talk about) comes out ahead of the other two is it's near subcompact size. While I think the SD9VE is easy to carry, not everyone does. A 12 round SD9VE Subcompact (maybe SD9SC?) would give them an easy to carry option that is still American made and covered by a lifetime warranty. Of course with the Shield 9mm priced about the same or a little more, they may not want to compete against their own product line. Still, I would buy one.

I used to be of the mind that everything had to be black, but the SD9 is hard to find and I don't think there were really that many made. I've learned to live with the stainless and have grown to like it a lot. It's easy to maintain and keep clean. I have some black CeraKote on hand and may coat one of my SD9VEs some day.

Both of mine are cerakoted.
One in coyote tan and one in graphite black.

At the range people always ask to see em.

I was really hoping there would be more interest in a compact/subcompact SD9VE.
I used to carry the full size SD9VE quite a bit, but the grip stuck out and would hit my seat when driving or chair when sitting. The SD9K grip helps tremendously, but I really want something with a shorter barrel to pocket carry.
It would be nice to have factory magazines also. Modifying magazines is a real pain.

Me too. I cut down a G19 to take G26 mags but it needed a more rounded profile. An SD9VE subcompact would be awesome.

Knock 1/2" off the barrel length, and with that shortened grip, S&W would have a serious subcompact winner. I know it would kind of compete with the M&P Compact, but just think of the power of competing with the Glock 26/27 with the SD9/40VE subcompact model. If only they would make it happen...

Hmm let's see, M&P 9, SD9VE, M&P 9c, M&P Shield9 . . . Magic 8 Ball says, SD9VEsc not gonna happen. IMO

The PT111 G2 is a fine pistol .. But haveing said that .. Id buy a SDVEC ..
The SD series is the best value out there !!

But a SD45VE is the top of my SD wish list ..

I would 100% be on board with an SD9VE SC.

I'm sure that a master gunsmith could cut the slide and barrel down and fit a new RSA, but that seems like a lot of work to remove half and inch or so. I just cut the grip and magazine down to make my SD9VE Compact.

The barrel length doesn't really effect concealment on the belt, but it's still too long to carry in a jacket pocket or similar.
