Been looking at the SDVE for some time now. Use would be nightstand , target, and occasional carry. It will be shot extensively. I have handled and fired the SD40VE, although I will probably get the 9. They are going for full retail around here, but I will be visiting family soon. There is an Academy close to them and they show them at $319.

Is there any reason t should not purchase one?

Since 8-2-2014 I have put over 1,000 rounds through my SD9VE without ANY problems or issues. Mine is very accurate out to 15 yards. It has become my regular EDC, as it is very easy (for me) to carry/conceal. Mine is 100% stock, no mods at all. Trigger has never been an issue to me and has smoothed out with use; although I didn't seem to have the issues others have had when I bought mine new. I paid $299 for mine + tax and the LGS regularly sells the 9 & 40 at this price.

I see NO REASON for you not to buy one-I give it 2 thumbs up! :-)

I have the SD40VE and rely on it as my nightstand HD gun. It's a bit bulky for EDC for me but shoots very accurately so, as others have said, no reason not to buy.

If you can afford to buy a better gun buy it, if not buy the SDVE.

I really like mine, but with anything these days, a few folks seem to be have QC issues, at least with regards to appearance. Read over a few recent threads and if you decide to buy one, look it over before purchasing.

I keep seeing references to QC issues. I also see that many of them are eventually related to what the owner might have done to the gun.

Does anyone else have the same notion?

By all means buy it! If you don't, you will regret it.

No, none that I can think of. :)

No, no reason. Unless you want a target pistol with a trigger feels like "breaking glass." The SD trigger is long and fairly heavy. It can be fired accurately with practice, but is NOT the trigger of a tuned 1911, a vintage S&W revolver, or a fine Sig. So that is the only potential reason I can think of not to buy one.

But overall SD's are pretty nice. I don't think you have to do anything much to customize them, although some folks do: that is mostly for enjoyment, not out of necessity. They have a great reputation for reliability, which is the premier virtue in a self-defense handgun. Mine has been great.

If you are active duty, retired, or reserve military, or police, or a first responder, you can get one from Bud's Guns "qualified professional discount" sales for around $275, when they have them in stock (they usually do; but as of this post, they do not seem to have any).

Why not buy an SD? Sure, you can buy better pistols than this series, but you can also buy A LOT worse! This pistol is like it's been custom made for your hand. It's reliable and eats pretty much everything you feed it. And it's just plain fun to shoot!

S&W's SD9VE's are outstanding buys!

I liked mine so much I bought it a stable mate 10 days later.

Of course Academy dropping their sale price from $329 to $289 had a little to do with it too.

I basically got two "very" ergonomic 100% reliable guns for about the price of one new GLOCK.

Hi I'm new to the forum. I just recently purchased a SD9VE finally shot it today. Feels great I guess in any sized hands. I was compensating for the heavy trigger pull the first 3-4 rounds were out of the circle but in the paper the rest was in. I was shooting Walmart special TulAmmo 9mm 115g at 25ft. No FTF NOR FTE issues. I'm glad the gun works. I heard that SW was worried that the SD models was competing with the M&P in sales.

And welcome to the forum! The SD has a real fan base here, folks who appreciate its practical value. It may be the best value for money out there (did anyone mention it is backed up by S&W's Customer Service, one of the best in the business, although you probably won't need it!). And it is one of the most comfortable pistols there is. Enjoy.

Love mine! Had issues when i first day I fired FTF&FTE, so I called S&W they Emailed me a prepaid mailer label for Fedex & I sent it off. Three weeks later got it back. Shoots perfect, no problems at all! I believe the SD9 is the best of all the high capacity, economy, 9mm's out there.... Have had more than a few Sigma's. But I plan on keeping my SD9VE & getting a few more! ! for the truck, 1 for the B.O.B., 1 for etc....

Love my SD9... I swear I could shoot dirt through it and it would still run flawlessly.

If your not crazy about the trigger (it's pretty good out of the box) for $20 you can upgrade to the Apex trigger spring kit and it will shot like a gun twice its price.
