Well, finally pulled the trigger and bought my first M625 .45 acp. I looked at many different models, got great advice from those on this forum, and in the end, it came down to price and what I liked. I liked the looks of this one, M625-6 V-Comp and the price was in line with what I wanted to pay. It came with the PC box, and all the paperwork. I have not taken it to the range yet. Just thought I would say thanks to all the information I received from our members. Oh, it did happen, here is the pic.

I think the only reason 625's and similar aren't more popular is that most people have no idea what they are missing. I must admit that when I bought mine I had NO idea how much I was going to love it.

Maxibob, I hope it shoots as good as it feels in my hand. I really am looking forward to getting it to the range.

Josh, no the grips are original to the M625-6. They are Hogue Wood Combats.

I agree totally, Maximumbob. I WASTED 50 years of shooting not ownng a S&W revolver in .45 ACP. Thankfully, I bought a 625-3 Model of 1989 two years ago......

Yes its a beauty, I'd like to see some powder stains and targets with holes in them

I would love to know how much recoil that comp negates. My three inch barrel I guess allows that much less steel in the over all weight of the gun and I was a bit shocked at the level of recoil. It's nothing crazy but it's more than I thought it would be. Too used to the 1911 I guess.

Did not get to the range today. Long story. Anyway, I hope to get there tomorrow and will give a report. Maxibob, I will try rounds with the comp and without just to see if I can tell the difference.

Does that compensator simply unscrew ? ? ?

one eye joe, no it has an set screw and comes with an allen wrench to change out the compensator. It also came with a barrel protector that is not ported and just looks like the extention of the barrel. I liked the way the compensator looked so I left it on the gun. Here is a pic.

WOW JCS&W, that is both unique and beautiful ! ! ! Thank you soooo much for the response.......

Man that is one butt ugly gun! Just kidding. I just didn't want your head to get too big! :D Don't know how necessary that muzzle brake is though, They finally eliminated them from Thompsons and other sub guns of the time cause they found them unnecessary. You'll have to let us know how she shoots with and without. It pays to take your time when buying, she's a beauty! ;)

Frankly KEN L, I have my doubts as to the function of the compensator as well. I just think it looks BAD on the gun.lol Deffinately going to see tomorrow. Oh, my head it not too big, my ears are just too small.
