Five months ago we purchased a top of the line ($3000.00 plus) refrigerator
from Sears .Two weeks ago we came home to discover that it had stop working and $200.00 worth of food was spoiled ! A call to Sears Customer Service for emergency service was requested and we were put on the "Emergency Service" list. After a number of calls, a service tech came eight (8) days later. He put in a new computer board and left. Twelve hours later the refrigerator stopped working again with another loss of food. Another request call to Sears for "Emergency Service" was made and again we were told that we were put on the "Emergency Service" list and we would have a service tech Wednesday October 15. I asked if this was a "Emergency Service List" and was told it was ?? I am so glad that this an "Emergency" as if it wasn't I might not ever see a service tech. P.S. Sears will never have me for a customer again.

At the rate of decline of Sears stores in a few years they will join the same list the Dodo bird is on.

Sears

I'm done with the Sears Auto Service center's as well. Used to buy my Goodyear tires from them. Customer service is now terrible. Also, all Craftsman tools are now made overseas. No more Sears.

We bought a dishwasher from Sears, and also bought their maint. agreement. They were supossed to come every year(after a phone call to set up time)to do a service on the washer....that was 5 years ago.......still waiting for that first call.

im done with sears appliances there always a week out and you cant buy parts for them. as far as your food loss you might be able to call insurance co. they might cover some of the loss at least they did for us during hurricane andrew

Hope not to be flagged for piling on...

Bought a high end washer dryer set for my daughter moving into a new home. Was told it would be delivered and installed in 3 days. After 3 weeks and numerous calls we were told that it was late because the delivery address was in a remote delivery area.

The address is inside the Charlotte interstate loop and 2 miles from the Sears store. After explaining this to the "non US" agent on the line... we were told that none of that mattered... the system said it was remote.

Just this week, she called Sears because of a service problem and nobody could find any record of the order or the delivery.

The last of many Sears appliance purchases for me.

Sorry to hear this about Sears. I would have expected better from them.

Years ago I worked for franchised GE and other's servicers and later for Amana factory service. Normally when we had a no cool refrigerator or freezer call it was same day service if at all possible. I worked some late nights providing that service too.
I'm sure things are different today and too bad for that. FWIW I got out of that business and went into commercial refrigeration as appliances had become throwaways. Too bad as I worked long and hard saving those pink appliances popular back in the day.

When I was a lot younger.... and poorer.... in the 1970's and 1980's, I shopped almost exclusively at Sears because I could count on their quality and support. Haven't seen that in years. It's been at least 20 years since I bought anything there.

The last thing I bought from Sears was a drill. And that probably will be the last thing.
They are just not what they used to be.
I gave been going there since I was a small laddie.

Sears Trivia- Did you ever see any cars for sale there?
How about tractors? Not the garden tractors, larger riding farming tractors.

Sears has me studying for HVAC Level 2.
I have a heat pump system thats been a real drama queen.
last time it needed service at the tail end of its warranty, it took 3 months to get them to "pretend" to honor it.
Their one and only service contractor for a metro area was backlogged for 4 months.
They finally woke up and stepped off the reservation to get a different company out, who misdiagnosed the issues, saying it was a $460 IAQ thermostat. Well he was kinda close .....
So the guy calls Sears on speaker phone ....
"Is the cost of this repair greater than $300?" .... that's all I needed to know, the rest was predictable .. weasel out of the warranty time.

Thank God for Amazon, where a guy can get a better deal on replacement parts, not sold in home improvement stores.
I had it running for a few days and it flaked out again.
Some time later we ended up with another tech out on our dime.
it was the height of summer and this guy had a long day and a few miles to go. His voltmeter went dead on him as this was a job to far.
ended up being that we finished the diagnostics.
In retrospect, 80% of the work I could have done myself had I had something of a road map to go in with. the remaining 20% was finally getting the refrigerant charge right, which is where you need a license to get the stuff to charge it with.
Final bill here was $90. This tech recognized the work I did as well as his own. I'd recommend the guy to anyone.
when he figures out that you have a brain, he'll teach you as much as he can before he heads out.

Sears could have made it right years ago, had it not been for the service price point policy. This forces the guys in the field to put bandaides on bullet holes instead of properly stitching them shut whenever it exceeds the price point.
allowing an extra $200 four years ago might have saved them at least a grand while saving me a lot of grief.

Let em sink .... Sears is no longer what we knew in the 1900's

Yup, I remember the Allstate cars that Sears sold back in the 1950s. I think that it was a knockoff of the old Henry J.

I remember the cars AND (my favorites in the catalog for quite a while) Allstate Scooters.
When I finally saved up enough for an Allstate scoot I found a 1945 Harley Flat Head for less money - Still riding hogs - Still don't have a scooter...

I'm there with you on Sears quality. I recall as a kid my dad telling me, Craftsman for the money is as good as there is, and American made too. Sadly, not so anymore on either count.

I did see the Sears cars in the basement of the old big Sears store out in East Memphis.
I never saw the big tractors in a store, have seen then at tractor shows.

Another trivia question - what big item kit did Sears sell? The kit Probably filled half or more of a boxcar. The only one that I know of around here is located in Corrales, NM and is on the historic register.

They sold house kits in the early part of the 20th century.Just buy a lot and they would ship you the plans and parts.

I just brought back a 20 year old broken Craftsman 3/8 socket wrench to Sears last month and the free replacement off the rack is still stamped Made in USA.
