SEARS CUSTOMER SERVICE

As with vehicles, my wife and I have bought all our (major) furnishings from the same business and salesman for decades. We're on a first name basis and if anything goes wrong we get immediate attention. And that includes a call back to make sure all's well. We try not to shop at stores like Sears because once the sale is made you're just another voice and there's no incentive for them to listen to you. Have a friendly relationship with a salesman, who lives on commission and expects you to return, now there's a person who's motivated to assist you.

Sears is no different than S&W and Colt. Wouldn't buy anything made after the '70s from any of them.

I can tell you my grandfather was a big fan of Sears back from the early days, but even in the early 90's he said they were going downhill. He had a riding mower that was older than dirt and was great for cutting the lawn, and then we had a Craftsman mower that I used every year since I was 11 until I was in my 20's to not only mow my lawn, but I would haul it around the trailer park and offer to mow someone elses for a few bucks. It was a little 1 1/2 horse and it ran great. In 2010 we bought a Craftsman push mower that was 3 horse and it died in two years. Craftsman tools, I have a my set I was given when I was 16 and the new ones are not even close. Sears is on the same fast track that Montgomery Wards and Kmart is on and I think given a few years they will all be there together, unfortunately taking another once great company along with it. Cheap production, shoddy service and quality control that resembles a Kindergarten art project have done them in.

"Sear's" and Customer Service should not be used in connection.

I say that after having worked in Customer Service at a major Sear's store.

Those old Sears catalogs were the inspiration for many a young boy's dreams.

You fill in the blanks.

You think the top guy's at Sears have the same junk in their homes that they expect you to buy from them?

I was taking a short cut thru my local Sears a few weeks ago and I stopped at their shoe dept. saw an pr. I liked and took the sample to the counter, 20 seconds went by ,no clerk, I looked in the back and ,no clerk so the mischief maker in me went to work, I took my time, found the model # and proceeded to look for a free pr of shoes( didnt have any intention of really taking them, simply suprised at the ease of larceny). didnt find any so I wandered back to their offices to inform them of the gap in service and security. believe it or not there weren't any bosses there!!only 2 people with no authority. while explaining my adventure to them the shoe clerk walks over and asks if she can help me. "nope,, got all the shoes I'll need for quite some time thanks". she seemed upset that I was complaining to management about her being off station, and was telling me in a slightly aggitated voice she had some business back here, and kept asking if she could help me. never saying "best I get back to my dept." I left all 3 of 'em right there.

We purchased a refrigerator from Sears and it lasted a few months. We called the service line and they said to unplug it and it should reset( would not stay cold) it worked for a few weeks then started acting up. My wife called to have a service tech do a call and they told us 3 weeks ,my wife went ballistic (we had made a large purchase of food for the Christmas holiday) so they agreed to deliver us a new frig. We waited a week and it was finally delivered and they never even got it off the truck, my wife said it looked like it was beaten with a ball bat. She went to Lowes and bought a new one and it was delivered the next day.
We received a refund but we still had a dead frig in the kitchen taking up space . Sears said we will pick it up on Monday (no show) called "oh so sorry " will pick up Wednesday "so sorry " next week we will pick up. I was off on Monday when they were supposed to arrive and were a no show by 1pm. I get on the horn and call my local Sears , "we will call the driver" I get a call back they can't pick up. That's when I went ballistic, I got the number from the manager and called 4 times before I got a person that I could understand. The woman on the phone said that no trucks were available for pick up and she was sorry , so while I am voicing my displeasure with her about her company what shows up YES the delivery truck. I said the trucks here thanks for the service and hung up.
The crew was very nice. He said that he was done early and had picked up the route as an extra. While he was hauling the dead cold broken box away he said that our particular frig was a popular haul away due to a bad board . I have never purchased anything from Sears since. The service has gone way down

They sold house kits in the early part of the 20th century.Just buy a lot and they would ship you the plans and parts.

My grandfather and his brother build Sears houses like those around 1910. Bought 4 lots and put two houses on them. Still going strong, except with new owners of course.

Last Friday I had a Craftsman cordless drill bite the dust, the chuck locked closed. Fortunately I had the extended warranty (I seldom buy those things). Called them Friday, got an email with shipping label, mailed it Monday and cashed the check on Thursday. I was impressed.

It's been about 25 years ago, and Sears screwed up my credid bad. I brought back a defective VCR I bought new on a Sears credit card, and they allegedly credited it with the purchase. Somehow they had me down as a non-payer and reported me. It took months and dozens of phone calls and letters to get it untangled. I haven't been in a Sears store since.

Yup, I remember the Allstate cars that Sears sold back in the 1950s. I think that it was a knockoff of the old Henry J.

They were Henry Js, just re-badged. That was no secret. Their motorcycles at the same time were built by Steyr-Daimler-Puch.
